What travelers are saying
- Claudia DBuenos Aires, Distrito Federal, Argentina1,105 contributionsThis place is for me the nicest in Abruzzo. Considered on the list of the Borghi Più beli d’Italia.
You will find that they are still fixing some buildings after the earthquake of 2009 and all the area aswell.
But after the years has the same personality I felt thirty years ago when I went there for the first time.
Nowadays with a lot of good options for dinner a couple of bars.
Located up in the mountains with and fantastic tower that you can visit inside.
Silent, profound, embrassing, leaving you the sensation the the time doesn’t pass, that everything stays stand still…
A sensation that is not easy to feel when you travel.

It felt like we had the town to ourselves to wander around. We visited the castle. It was lovely.Written June 6, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Deb WReno, NV2,571 contributionsWe came to this town to enjoy the view of the Adriatic Sea. The town was lovely as walked around a bit.Written June 12, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- BaruchBarryPinnickMa'ale Adumim, Israel222 contributionsWe were there at the end of March when there weren't many other tourists around; I understand that it can get much busier later in the year. We had about an hour to walk around the centre.
It's fine if you want a small town that is prepared for tourism yet probably is a world away from the nearest large cities of Rome and Napoli. The surrounding area is beautiful, as are the views from the town. And if you're there, a trip to nearby Lake Scanno should not be missed.Written May 26, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. I loved the museum of the Apenine wolf, coming back in the summer with the kids for a day trip with picnicWritten February 9, 2016This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Malta_GozoIsland of Malta, Malta237 contributionsBeautiful scenery. A very quiet and peaceful place. Buildings are elevated on the top of the hill surrounded by greenery.Written September 24, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - GRO3Province of Brescia, Italy307 contributionsThis place never ceases to amaze me. The food is wonderful in January when it is quite chilly. They have wonderful arrosticini, Multipulciano d'Abruzzo wine and other options. If you must stay gluten free with your diet they have you covered there as well. I was first introduced to this restaurant in January of 2018 and it was soo delicious I brought my husband back to try their dishes in July. Best place to sit is table 9 outdoors on the terrace, best time of day is 7PM CEST.Written July 14, 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Michele Amico🇮🇹🇮🇹🇮🇹🇮🇹Caltanissetta, Italy2,871 contributionsThis is the beautiful city of L'Aquila, in Abruzzo region, in the middle of Italian peninsula. Unfortunately, some years ago, a terrible hearth quake, destroid or damaged a lot of attractions. Help this city, help this people. VISIT L'AQUILA.Written October 27, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- bepper263Brussels, Belgium4,850 contributionsThe Historic Center of this city is truly a small gem of history, with houses that overlook narrow streets and very often imperceptible by cars, which once did not exist and find it impossible today to move where only horses or mules crossed far away.
Streets that are paved and unpaved, with custom buses so that they can pass unnecessary and carry the few passengers from one point to another in the city.
Then climb up or down to face patiently, if you want to get the centre right up, maybe holding the handrails that allow those who have more difficulty not to fall (I think of the winter season, which even here must not be totally devoid of snow and ice!).
Historic Lanciano is plenty of beautifully restored houses and extraordinary floral balconies, but also of some dense edifice and certainly difficult to live.
In fact, the living standards of a time contrast hard with the needs of today, and enter a housing in the centre, with a vertical development on multiple floors in which no more than one room per floor can be found, on steep and narrow stairs, with heights impossible to handle even for medium height people, requires courage and expertise.
During our visit, I found an interesting road panel showing "The Way of the Apostle Thomas", probably indicating a religious path that the pilgrim had to overcome to reach the centre of Luciano and get indulgences in the “Santuario” of the Eucharistic Miracle, one of the city attractions that is worth the visit.
Nevertheless, take time for a walk worth the effort: it is like taking a leap back in time and imagining how life was in Lanciano and in many villages in the region and in Italy in the past centuries, with so many sacrifices and so much poverty.
For those who plan to visit, the city centre is a “must”, a stop not to be missed, with a little attention however from those who had mobility and walking problems.Written June 7, 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. As you walk through the castle be sure to look out the windows at the beautiful granite mountains and the neighboring villages. Too beautiful for words.Written October 22, 2013This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Deb WReno, NV2,571 contributionsThis is a beautiful town square. As others have mentioned, On Wed and Sat there is a large market. This is a great place to meet up as it's easy to find. There are shops and restaurants on the perimeter. The Aqueduct is in this area.Written June 6, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - feuchtmcMunich, Germany6 contributionsLittle town dominating the hills about 10 km away from the seashore with 3000 (!) years of history a live museum
Practically unspoiled historical centre with little streets to be explored
The 12th century Duomo (Cathedral) is absolutely fantastic, a cafe or apperitivo on the terrace of the Bar del teatro in Piazza Duomo on a summer day is a mustWritten October 23, 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Starts with our wonderful B&B Mille una Notte - perfectly located between the beach and the bustling Centro Stories. The Centro had fantastic restaurants and stunning views of the Adriatic. Be sure to visit Dusk, a music bar that makes killer negronis! Don't miss the Palace D'Avalos and the lovely paintings of the region from the 1700s, and the beautiful gardens overlooking the bay. We also loved our beach days. Again, great restaurants with big umbrellas and friendly staff. The cool turquoise waters are a delight.Written August 30, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
