- Jurek S3 contributionsBeautiful place. Amazing view.
Location is great, castle at around 1540m above sea level but with great access by car. Parking is available but can be not enough in high season. In September, there was enough space there.Written September 30, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Walking on the side of a sutterain river. An awsome experience in Abruzzo.Written October 14, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Trilingual2007London, UK95 contributionsBeautiful lake where to spend an entire day relaxing and swimming. There are several points along the lake where to stop on little beaches or to rent pedal boats, with many restaurants too.Written August 24, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Claudia DBuenos Aires, Distrito Federal, Argentina1,105 contributionsThis place is for me the nicest in Abruzzo. Considered on the list of the Borghi Più beli d’Italia.
You will find that they are still fixing some buildings after the earthquake of 2009 and all the area aswell.
But after the years has the same personality I felt thirty years ago when I went there for the first time.
Nowadays with a lot of good options for dinner a couple of bars.
Located up in the mountains with and fantastic tower that you can visit inside.
Silent, profound, embrassing, leaving you the sensation the the time doesn’t pass, that everything stays stand still…
A sensation that is not easy to feel when you travel.
This medioevo places around Abruzzo-Aquila area are incredible! Unforgettable.Written July 22, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Traveling by car you enjoy a variety of vistas including rocky valleys, jagged mountains, rolling plains, free ranging horses, sheep and cattle. Each turn in the road offers a different view and type of landscape. Clouds billow above and below, trees grow in densely wooded forests on one side of the mountain, and sharp rocky crags make up the back side, open hills and boulders dot the landscape. The end destination of the trip is an observatory and a hotel from World War II era. The trip is a beautiful rest from the busy cities and offers many opportunities for photos and just enjoying nature. Strongly recommend.Written October 20, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- joeyo47 contributionsA major and very beautiful restoration in progress here following the 2009 earthquake. A once magnificent place it seems to be well on its away to returning to its former eleganceWritten October 7, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - G.B.871 contributions...an excellent place to spend a pleasant break, in couple or family. It's possible to stop for a bite to eat (perhaps taking a sandwich or a coffee at the bar) but, most importantly, at a very low price you can access the reserve with the most competent (and at the same time funny) guide that I have the pleasure of hearing for a long time. You will have the opportunity to get close to the animals and even feed them! In addition, the guide will tell you several little known things (try asking how the selection of the alpha male takes place...).
In short, you will spend a few hours having fun in contact with nature.Written December 11, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. It was one of the last fortresses of the "Regno delle due Sicilie" besieged (in 1860-1861) during the formation of Italy, as we know it today. Weapons such as those now on display in the museum were used and the roads you will travel along were used by soldiers during that and other sieges. The place, in short, deserves to be visited, but also deserves to be cared for more.
There are no audio-guides, nor was it possible to make a guided tour.
The information material, often small, is present only in certain areas particularly circumscribed, for the rest you will have to move along a path not well specified. There is only a drinks machine, when a bar would be very nice.

The faces are both human and animal, and are fascinating to view individually and as a fountain that completely surrounds you.Written June 23, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Paola MRome, Italy15 contributionsGreat spot, great organization, superb view, even excellent food at the coffee shop at the top station of the train. Only negative issue was the lady at the counter who behaved very very rudely to us and to other customers.Written July 29, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - franketchesonOakville, Canada3 contributionsI keep going back to the Gran Sasso, it is different every time and a magical place from the wild horses on the plains to the hotel that housed Mussolini.

Wander around, join the lively passegiata, sit on the steps and eat gelati or have a drink in one of the friendly bars.
Mount Majella creates a spectacular backdrop and is the best show in town as the sun sets.
Intriguing light installations quote the Roman poet Ovid who was born here and wrote “the Art of Love.”

The whole walk took 2 hours and at the end, we walked back to the starting point on the road for 20 mins. We stopped by the Caramanico town for a quick lunch - highly recommended!Written July 24, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
