What travelers are saying
- LauraSouthampton, UK13 contributionsA beautiful Greek structure, which was incredible to walk around and marvel at its size. Pricing was good for EU tourists under 25! The views of the island from this impressive landmark were stunning. The only shame was the giant sponsored scaffolding. Otherwise a lovely visit.Written March 11, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Angelo ZEvant, TX300 contributionsThe cathedral is an impressive and impossing blend of Arab, Norman,Gothic and Baroque. The inside shares some of the same influences, there is much to see. There are different chapels, crypts and what’s called the treasury. You can also go on the roof but it’s very narrow. The park outside is a great place to people watch.Written January 1, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Tripsnek LadyAtlanta, GA321 contributionsIt is hard to get to, but it is worth it. Just the best mosaics in the world. Parking is very easy. Make sure to have money for the bathroom.Written March 12, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Elia B10 contributionsWe visited the tonnara of Favignana our last day on the Egadis. The tonnara is an interesting example of industrial architecture and it has a sea turtles clinic inside the building. Liliana led in a very inspiring visit, where she taught us the almost mystic role of the rais alongside the different phases of tuna production. With the songs she shared with us, it was almost possible to feel the experience of the tonnara and its meaning not only for the industry but for the community as a whole. Absolutely recommended if you are in Favignana!Written September 10, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - AMsaysThornhill, Canada4,121 contributionsParked on a narrow street and walked up numerous sets of steps and streets to eventually end up at Piazza Duomo. The labyrinth of old town streets, intricate alleys and curving lanes means you can get lost, but it seems all roads lead to the Piazza Duomo and that fabulous church. Great views. Here I saw 19thC Palazzo Arezzo di Trifiletti, Teatro Donnafugata and Chiesa di San Giuseppe – all unfortunately closed during siesta time. There are little trattorias, tiny cafes and bars to sit and enjoy the view and refresh yourself with great food and drinks. On the way out to Modica, I came the wrong way up not one, but two dead end streets and had to reverse out, up hills with barely enough room on either side. I could not open my door fully. I blame the GPSWritten February 13, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- AMsaysThornhill, Canada4,121 contributionsMain city square flanked by City Hall (Palazzo degli Elefanti) and the Cathedral of Saint Agatha. 3 major streets enter the square giving it a unique position in the city. It is Catania’s heartbeat. During my time here, I found the elephant fountain and some impressive buildings. There was a lot of pedestrian traffic through here as it is also on the way to Catania’s famous fish market.Written February 8, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Greg_PresleyLondon, UK198 contributionsSince the whole town was destroyed in 1693, it had been rebuilt after with a plan and has stayed the same ever since.
I have only see old towns like this in Germany or Austria.Written October 22, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. It looks like a fortified castle. It was built between 1131 and 1240 by the Norman King Roger 11. The attached cloister is the oldest in Sicily. IT is opened every day from 8-12:45 and 3:30-5:45.Written March 3, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - BkbakTempe, AZ1,442 contributionsCROWDED! However, still a nice street to enjoy. It is a tourist mecca but if you stop and look beyond the stores, you'll notice some beautiful side streets, balconies, and even ancient buildings that the stores are in.Written February 25, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Angelo ZEvant, TX300 contributionsThis is what’s considered the center of old Palermo. The 4 corners are interesting to see each has a different season and story depicted with statues and water fountains. It’s at the intersection of 2 major streets that you will want to stroll down. Musicians usually playing.Written January 2, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Flying CloudHilton Head, SC78 contributionsWe did the Tour in English, and the information was great. We watched a video that explained the process, and then walked the Salt Mine and the information was explained again in the real setting. I can't think of many tours that offered this kind of experience.Written September 26, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - CPaM68Texas663 contributionsThe bell tower and clock of the Messina Cathedral is definitely something you should see when visiting Messina. The cathedral’s original tower was destroyed by an earthquake and was rebuilt in 1933 as an astronomical clock. It is said to be the largest and most complex mechanical and astronomical clock in the world. Every day at noon, the statues on the astronomical clock come to life as the show begins. As the bells chime, the lion roars, and the rooster crows; the statues strike the hour, and the carousel's mechanical figures play out biblical scenes. A real spectacle that lasts 12-15 minutes. In addition to watching the show, you can also tour the inside of the bell tower and view the different mechanisms that operate the statues at each level. At the very top, you get a beautiful view of the entire city. Watching the show at noon is free. Climbing the bell tower cost 5 euros. - CynicorenBeersheba, Israel2,582 contributionsThe Piazza and the water fountain could be known around the world if the city would invest in this area. Located in the historical city center, surrounded by buildings and churches that really need painting and renovations, you can find in its center a beautiful water fountain that ,sadly, doesn't work.Written November 15, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - StephenCrossDublin, Ireland18,526 contributionsEverywhere you turn in the town of Scicili it is just amazing. Churches, statutes, squares. - DeborahTP3 TProvidence, RI3 contributionsHosni, born and raised in Mazzara del Vallo, knows the twists and turns of the casbah, with the history of the people and places, and will charm you with good humor and knowledge.
