- WonderingNutAuburn, WA28 contributionsWe climbed in, up and out of several of Mount Etna craters, and it was truly amazing. The views, the hike, the adventure I would gladly do it all again and again.Written March 9, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - BellBoy53Brisbane, Australia610 contributionsUnfortunately it was an inclement day however this meant the site was deserted so the natural beauty of the rocks and ocean could be enjoyed in peace. Pity about the rubbish on the beach.Written November 27, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.

- CynicorenBeersheba, Israel2,582 contributionsHundreds of skeletons are displayed, some in better, so in worse condition.
Most of them are dressed up according to their time, so it's interesting from that perspective, as there are dead from all walks of life.
Obviously, makes you think about your own mortality and life.
Taking pictures is not allowed.
The site is off the beaten path, so you have to take a bus (15-20 minutes drive from the city center), and walk in a strange route to get there.Written December 17, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. And easy and pretty drive through the country takes you to the mountains to see the gorges. We did the walking, splash pad and basic visit, but wish we had just done the basic.
The walking path takes you to the Venus Source which is beautiful and gives you above views of the canyon below, but the real star is the gorge itself. Taking the lift down makes it an easy trek for old and young. With our 5 and 8 year old we were able to work our way up quite a bit through the canyon.
The kids had swim shoes which I would recommend. My feet were torn up by the end. The water is VERY cold but very refreshing on a hot August day. Fight through it and work your way up the canyon. It’s worth it.
Skip the splash pad. We did it for the kids but it was way too expensive for what it was.Written August 9, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. I definitely plan to return, and to seek out other volcanoes as well. One of the most amazing things I have ever seen, and I've seen A LOT!
Ideally, you should spend at least 2 nights on the island to maximize the chances of seeing the eruption in case the craters are obscured by clouds one night. I inquired with Magmatrek when I arrived at the end of October, and they were sold out that night, and only had 1 spot available for the next night (which I took). So, plan ahead.
I think most reviews don't emphasize how amazing the volcano is even during the day! Seeing the rocks tumble down into the sea is mesmerizing. I wish I had arrived to the 290m viewpoint earlier, at least 1 hour before sunset!
I would recommend doing both the hiking group tour to 400m *and* going up by yourself to 290m (or wherever you feel like stopping - there are other places you can stop at, like the Observatory, but the higher you go the better the views will be, although even the "worst" are unbelievable). This way, you can get the pros of both the group and independent experience.
Pros of a tour: you get as close as possible (400m altitude), and you get some cool information along the way. Cons: you can't customize the experience; for example if you're seeking a quiet, contemplative experience like I was, that's not possible in a group of 20 people. If you want to arrive earlier or stay for longer, or hike faster/slower, you cannot do that, and for many this is a once in a lifetime experience that I would not recommend short-changing.
Pros of going alone: the main advantage for me is that you can spend more time at the top (arrive earlier, and can stay as long as you want, provided you have snacks, drinks, and WARM windproof CLOTHES). But you can only get to 290m, which is still very impressive but measurably less so than the 400m. The 290m viewpoint is still not completely serene, but you have more freedom to move around, go higher or lower, stay longer, etc. If you value solitude, this is an unforgettable experience, especially since during a full moon you can walk down the volcano without a light for the most part.
If I were to pick one experience vs. the other, I'm not sure which I would pick! They're both awesome in their own unique way. To get the advantages of both in one epic trip, I would definitely hire a private guide in order to arrive to 400m earlier in the day, and hopefully have the freedom to stay a bit longer than the other tour groups. That would give you the best experience possible, especially if enjoying this majestic natural experience in (relative) tranquility is important to you.Written January 24, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The theme park was good, especially the high-speed roller coasters, but oh my god isn't the aquapark the best one I've been to yet!
You'll definitely find a slide for yourself, no matter how brave you are! The selection of attractions is astounding.
The place is also very easy to navigate and the queues were very reasonable in August.
Just one advice - bring your own food as the prices are what you'd expect from a place like this.Written September 27, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Unfortunately on our return to the ‘car park’ we found our car, and several others, had been broken into. We were lucky the there was nothing to take but some of our neighbours lost cash, bags and passports. We subsequently found out that this is a common enough event at this venue. What’s more annoying is that there are staff onsite but no ‘official’ car park.Written November 15, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Jacqui37Hampshire, UK72 contributionsWe managed to go up on a green light, which was red when we returned - so there are opportunities to climb. Would recommend going early in the day - earlier the better (before 10am) to miss the heat of the day.Written September 22, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - murrayldEsher, UK206 contributionsHad a truly amazing trip to Cavegrande. Was worried about the walk but it was really no problem for 4 of us including a 7 & 11 yr old.
Is essentially a 2k walk downhill (40mins) thru amazing scenery and then you come to the most idyllic setting of ravines and waterfalls. The water was absolutely gorgeous and some great jumps for the kids.
The walk back up was slightly more arduous but took less than an hour and was more than worth it for the natural scenery.
& it didn’t cost a penny, which is almost unheard of on holiday.

Have a look from the sea, but please avoid to enter into the cave.Written July 17, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Charles_and_SusanNottingham, UK5,871 contributionsWell - quite a trip. It's a basic cable car except that it's going up Mount Etna. It's well organised and easy to get on and off. It stopped now and then - presumably for helping some people to get on. The views all round are impressive and it takes you way up the mountain where there's a cafe and shop. Well worth a trip.
On the way back down it was quite windy and so we were rocking around quite a bit. I don't know how windy it needs to get before they can't run it but it must have been near to that. Enjoyable though.Written October 4, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - AMsaysThornhill, Canada4,121 contributionsI arrived early on my own, expecting it to be open, but sadly it wasn’t. Luckily on my way out a car drove up to the gates and went through. I followed to find out he was the gatekeeper of this unique UNESCO rated historic Pantalica Nature Preserve and collection of cemeteries with rock hewn chamber tombs on the Anapo River Valley. Hiking was tough in the rugged, rocky terrain as I climbed up aways. The area is breathtakingly beautiful with the river snaking through the indigenous flora and rocky outcrops. I never did get to the tombs because the terrain became unmanageable and sadly, I had to return. Those tombs believed to be about 4,000, date back from the 13th to the 7th centuries BC.Written February 7, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
