If you enjoy ancient history, this site is well worth the time. It requires some easy walking time, and if you go from one end to the other, you might want to make arrangements for a drive back to the start. Nevertheless, the temples and their setting are worth visiting.

Ortigia is the island at the tip of Syracuse and is a wonderful place to visit. Great restaurants, bars, lots of history and things to do and see although it is a wonderful place to relax. We had a wonderful time her on Ortigia and would very much recommending it as a place to spend some time in Sicily.

We climbed in, up and out of several of Mount Etna craters, and it was truly amazing. The views, the hike, the adventure I would gladly do it all again and again.

A beautiful Greek structure, which was incredible to walk around and marvel at its size. Pricing was good for EU tourists under 25! The views of the island from this impressive landmark were stunning. The only shame was the giant sponsored scaffolding. Otherwise a lovely visit.

The cathedral is an impressive and impossing blend of Arab, Norman,Gothic and Baroque. The inside shares some of the same influences, there is much to see. There are different chapels, crypts and what’s called the treasury. You can also go on the roof but it’s very narrow. The park outside is a great place to people watch.

Best day, stunning hike with breathtaking views of coves and mountains..
we spent a few hours walking and stopped off at two of the Calas for much needed cooling off in the crystal clear water
Hiking is hilly but paths are well maintained albeit rocky
Definitely need trainers or hiking boots,p and plenty of water and snacks as there is nothing in the reserve once you enter we made the mistake of not bringing enough and had to cut our time on the beach short after hours in the sun
A must visit in the area

It is hard to get to, but it is worth it. Just the best mosaics in the world. Parking is very easy. Make sure to have money for the bathroom.

We visited the tonnara of Favignana our last day on the Egadis. The tonnara is an interesting example of industrial architecture and it has a sea turtles clinic inside the building. Liliana led in a very inspiring visit, where she taught us the almost mystic role of the rais alongside the different phases of tuna production. With the songs she shared with us, it was almost possible to feel the experience of the tonnara and its meaning not only for the industry but for the community as a whole. Absolutely recommended if you are in Favignana!

Parked on a narrow street and walked up numerous sets of steps and streets to eventually end up at Piazza Duomo. The labyrinth of old town streets, intricate alleys and curving lanes means you can get lost, but it seems all roads lead to the Piazza Duomo and that fabulous church. Great views. Here I saw 19thC Palazzo Arezzo di Trifiletti, Teatro Donnafugata and Chiesa di San Giuseppe – all unfortunately closed during siesta time. There are little trattorias, tiny cafes and bars to sit and enjoy the view and refresh yourself with great food and drinks. On the way out to Modica, I came the wrong way up not one, but two dead end streets and had to reverse out, up hills with barely enough room on either side. I could not open my door fully. I blame the GPS

Monreale deserves most of an afternoon. The mosaics are dazzling and impressively detailed, especially considering that they’d been wrought in 1123. Some seem almost whimsical in their depictions of Biblical stories, especially those from the Hebrew Scriptures.

This is a true gem of a building. Initially a Greek temple with doric columns, it was then a Byzantine church, a mosque, a Norman church and now it is a Catholic cathedral. The Greek columns can still be clearly seen both outside and inside.
It reminded me of Mezquita of Cordoba, which is a cathedral constructed over a mosque.

Main city square flanked by City Hall (Palazzo degli Elefanti) and the Cathedral of Saint Agatha. 3 major streets enter the square giving it a unique position in the city. It is Catania’s heartbeat. During my time here, I found the elephant fountain and some impressive buildings. There was a lot of pedestrian traffic through here as it is also on the way to Catania’s famous fish market.

Beautiful church with a rich history. It’s a UNESCO world heritage site. One of the few church’s anywhere where both Greek Orthodox and Roman Catholic services and rites can be held. The cost is only €2 and well worth a visit.
