Super cool experience, was from the most beautiful views I ever seen in my life. It’s a really worthy experience, needs some leg strength and some good physical condition as there is a lot of walking and the altitude doesn’t really help the breathing problems. There are alternatives to do the same with a van

We drive up to Mt Etna in the early morning not wanting to miss our 8.30am start time. The weather was just perfect. Met the team and checked in easy and smooth process. Off on the cable car to start the walk. The guide bought his wife along to translate to English and thier eight year old son, who actually led from the front all day. Great guides lots of information about Etna. Missed the 3000mt mark by 45mt but not to worry the views of the active caters was amazing. We stood inside a crater with steam pouring from vents in the rocks. Walked fresh lava fields and walked on moon scapes. Tough day up and down but so worth it. Recommend this company for sure .

We had a wonderful day with Vincenzo exploring Mt Etna. He picked us up at our hotel and immediately started explaining the sights along the route, adding details about the influence of the volcano on the towns, the people and the geography.

We were on the north side of the volcano to ensure we had the most memorable experience.

We stopped along the way at a lava tunnel and went down inside the ‘cave’. Vincenzo explained how these tunnels are formed. Absolutely incredible experience, including stalactites.

From there we continued up the mountain to a parking area. This is July and it is not crowded at all. The weather is cooler up there and very comfortable.

Vincenzo led us on a hike up through the lava flows to the site of the most recent major eruptions. He pointed out many beautiful sites and trees/plants. His passion for the volcano is incredible and he passes on his extensive knowledge of every aspect of the volcano science, myth and local culture importance. He lives in a town close to the volcano so that he can observe and learn more each day.

Highly recommend this best part of our Sicily trip.

Catania city centre is a beautiful place and the back streets around the fish market are full of fascinating trattoria specialising in seafood. That is not to say you can't get fairly simple pizza or pasta. Do try the local ice cream, you will not be disappointed.
The baroque architecture of the city really means the churches, of which the Duomo is the big set piece. Do check opening times if you plan to visit. The mixture of black and white materials, the black lava stone and the white limestone makes for a highly effective contrast.
There is a tourist "train" that runs around the main city sights in a 40 minute circuit. It's reasonably priced and has commentary in English and via headphones other languages are available, I think.
