The inside of this church is quite beautiful. You can walk in for free and it just takes a few minutes.

It looks a little stark on the outside, but inside it is decorated and typically Portuguese. Not always open. Check for times. It's on a pretty square with lots of people around.

This church no longer functions as one, but has been redesigned as a very impressive book store that's well worth a visit - if not for the books (the vast majority of which are of course in Portuguese) then for the remodelling and the unique combination of bookstore and church!

The Chapel of S. Martinho is a family funerary temple that was built by Pero Fernandes. The date of its construction is not certain. It is thought that it would have been between 1320 and 1331, but with two distinct phases of the construction, as different capitals and corbels were noted. There being no signs of having been destroyed by the 1755 earthquake, unlike other buildings in the region. The interior has a rib-vaulted ceiling and three tombs. It’s state property since 1998. Worth seeing while in Obidos.

Beautiful little museum with a storied history. Just ignore the rude staff who snap “no photos” as you enter, even if you’re not holding a camera. My attempts to solicit more information on the artefacts were met with irritation and insolence. They were not even under stress as there was no one else inside. They do this jewel of a museum a great disservice.
