A major and very beautiful restoration in progress here following the 2009 earthquake. A once magnificent place it seems to be well on its away to returning to its former elegance

Wonderful collection documenting local art and artifacts connected to the area. The historical progression was easy to follow from room to room with an interesting collection of artwork and artifacts such as an early Roman calendar.

This was a site we came to L'Aquila visit, arrived early and had the fountains to ourselves to experience. The faces are both human and animal, and are fascinating to view individually and as a fountain that completely surrounds you.

L’Aquila is a fantastic city and Basilica San Bernardino is, even though a little offsite of track, is a good place to go - especially in the evenings interesting people and many young people are hanging a round.

Although the fort is still under repair from the 2009 earthquake it is still an imposing fort.
Definitely worth a stroll around the outside & taking in the size & robustness of the structure.
If you time it right for a few euros you can take a guided tour inside the fort. Otherwise unfortunately, due to the ongoing repairs there is no public access.

This is the beautiful city of L'Aquila, in Abruzzo region, in the middle of Italian peninsula. Unfortunately, some years ago, a terrible hearth quake, destroid or damaged a lot of attractions. Help this city, help this people. VISIT L'AQUILA.

This city suffered a very strong earthquake in 2009. They are still under construction (after more than 10 years) so you can still see the work sites all around the square and along the streets near it. The space is large, the fountain is well cared for and often activities are carried out (concerts, market...), but looking around you will feel a strange feeling, as if there was something wrong. Many buildings have been rebuilt with a "fake" Roman style while many other structures are still under restoration. The strength of the inhabitants shines through from the fully operational activities, in the same way shines through the weakness of those who could do more. The place is absolutely to visit.

An interesting tiny village of no more than a few small stone houses and a few larger homes. The Borgo is placed on a smaller hilltop set within the mountains of Abruzzo, a small church sits in the centre of the town with stunning views along the length of the valley.
The village history dates back to 1400, but was abandoned in the 1950's and has since been carefully restored, probably with funds made available by the Catholic Church.
The village church must once have been a dignified place of beauty, its small size and bare fittings with small central painted cross icon placed above the alter fitting the small scale of the tiny village, sadly these have since been removed and replaced with badly painted images of Karol Józef Wojtyła, but worse still is the strange large bronze statue placed in front of the church.
Visitors who are equipped can also bring meat to BBQ at stone fire pits next to the church again with stunning views of the valley in the distance.

A small B&B lies just beyond the church within the village, but visitors should be aware that at this higher altitude temperatures drop rapidly after dark, however a summer visit in August felt fresh at 25 degrees in the late afternoon.
Access is by car or trecking in foot, Caravans are prohibited from entering the village. Note visitor numbers must surely start to rise now the village has finally been opened after its restoration.
Note also what looked like a public toilet opposite to the church had still not been finished when I visited in August 2015.
In Summary a good place for a short visit, but perhaps nothing beyond an hour max to see: the church and surrounding countryside.

This is a great selfie fountain. If the weather is right you can even get the mountains in the photo.
Also, a great landmark as a meeting place.

The park was nice - while we were there there was supposed to be a music, food and arts kind of festival but there were just some empty tents so we may have misunderstood the times. Our reason for being there was not to see the park but to visit the castle and the National Museum of Abruzzo, but unfortunately that is closed indefinitely after the 2009 earthquake.

A few churches have been restored and have opened again after the earthquake in 2009, this is one of them, and quite an impressive one as well. The church has barok decorations, but in subdued colours, and the whole is very harmonious.

What a wonderful place! Our family had a lovely meal here on the evening that the restaurant opened. The food is fresh and delicious, the owner very welcoming and everything is sourced locally. Meals are prepared in a unique and tasteful way. Awesome! I recommend Fattoria Valle Magica very highly!!!
