What travelers are saying
- GanfoWhite, GA561 contributionsLecce in late Fall was delightful. Not crowded but plenty going on. Lots to see. My wife and I just wandered. Window shopping isn't high on my personal list of favorite things to do, but one photo caught a truly remarkable window display.
Our favorite restaurant was near St. Matthew's Church, Trattoria Nonna Telli.Written December 27, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Nice walk in this square, busy, there's the tourist info as well. You can visit the tower paying the ticket and have s nice view of the Piazza from the top of the tower.Written October 9, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Tracey L5 contributionsWe did the guided tour. It lasted about 45 minutes and was really interesting. The abbey is small bit absolutely stunning with a rich history. There’s a lovely gift shop and bar. Worth visiting before exploring Lecce as it’s only 10 minutes away by car.Written September 6, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - BrakiWorldTravelerBelgrade, Serbia17,760 contributionsThis is the central square of old town Lecce. The Piazza is pretty big with a tall obelisk in the middle dedicated to town's patron Saint of Oronzo.
The best attraction is certainly the semi excavated amphitheater.
Side streets are full with bars and restaurants.Written October 5, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Likewise the entire old town, the gate shines in its Baroque beauty. It dates back to 16c marking the north-western city entrance from Naples direction.
On the outer side is Lecce new town, while passing through the gate you enter the amazing Baroque old town.Written October 5, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. They were part of the old city when it was surrounded by walls.Written February 17, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Take time to visit the Tourist information Office, then look around and take in the beauty.
This building was constructed in 1592 as a seat of power for the city. It was designed in a style that blends Gothic and Renaissance architecture.
Over the centuries, it has had many uses including as a warehouse for weapons and ammunition, as the town hall, as the location of the Civic Museum, and as the offices of the Salento Press Association. Today it is a space used for cultural events and art exhibitions.Written September 15, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - SoCalOregonianMurrieta, CA10,390 contributionsThis church located in front of the Roman Amphitheater in Piazza Sant’Oronzo was built in the late 1500’s. In the lower portion of the façade the entry portal is 10 steps above street level and is flanked by columns and pillars and topped by a tympanum with Mother and child. Between the columns and pillars flanking the entry, in niches are statues of St. Peter and Paul. On the upper façade, is a single window fronted by a balustrade and flanked by 2 empty niches.Written April 30, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
