Really good, guide was excellent, a must see, the house was just untouched from a different, but memorable era, the mine was good as well

Really interesting insight into how opal mines work and the scones and milkshake at the end of the tour was amazing!

A must-see on your trip to Coober Pedy. Colorful hills that have broken away (hence the name) due to the long-gone inland sea. The colors change with the sun. Lovely location in the late afternoon with a glass of bubbles.

St Elijah's Church is unique. Carved out of sandstone between 3-17 metres underground with a magnificent ceiling. Well worth a look and they only ask for a $5 donation to assist with upkeep.

A comprehensive overview of life and history in Coober Pedy was provided on the tour. We learned about the opals (naturally!) but also about life living underground. Our guide was informative and friendly explaining the different types of opals and what to look for in quality. There is a shop where opals can be purchased with prices to suit every budget.

We visited this establishment and found the staff friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. We listened to the staff member whilst visiting the orphaned kangaroos and found the talk was very informative. The Indigenous artwork was fabulous and we met the Artist. We had a really great afternoon.

Very interesting. I am not a religious person but the design of the church is worth going to go see (if you aren't religious).

They literally cut the church into the side of a hill using the machinery that they use to dig for opals.....

10 min out of town you’ll find Harrys house. He passed years ago but apparently he was the inspiration for crocodile Dundee. His underground house has loads of eccentric art inside and out. Fairly exciting guy and I think you’ll find it quite interesting place to visit. $7 each adult honesty box

I’m sorry that this is a very late review.

My wife and I were touring Australia in a campervan in 2015 and we spent a hot November night in Coober Pedy on a local campground. Before leaving the next morning we went to buy some opal jewellery for my wife at the Big Miner and it was a very interesting experience.

My wife bought an opal ring and some earrings which she treasures to this day. The owners were really lovely people, they were patient and helpful.

We left just after lunch heading south but only got 40 miles when the vans fan belt snapped.

There was no mobile phone service so I managed to flag down a young man, who after I had done a little vetting, kindly took my wife back to the town to get help.
As the police station was closed the only thing she could think to do was to ask for help at the Big Miner.

The couple were really helpful, they took my wife into their private quarters and helped her arrange for recovery. They sat with her for at least an hour before she was collected.

I did try to leave a review back then but I couldn’t find an online presence for them.
Last night we were watching a program on TV about opal mining in Coober Pedy and my wife said, “I wished you had been able to leave a review for those lovely people who looked after me that day”.

So here it is, and after all these years we are still eternally grateful for the help and care my wife received!

This is the longest dog fence in the world at around 5300 metres and is actually longer than the Great Wall of China! Built to prevent dingoes in the north of the country from traveling into the sheep country in the south.

This is a dinky little underground church. Much smaller than the Serbian church, but still a nice one to visit.

This movie prop is interesting to see and amazing that it has lasted all these years in such a harsh climate.
