What travelers are saying
- Dave C3 contributionsThis is one of the most gorgeous beaches I've visited. The horseshoe-shaped cove is framed by sand-colored rocky cliffs on the sides and a wooded nature preserve to the north, so it feels blissfully isolated. There is a real laid-back vibe, even on the Saturday in September that we were there. Because it was not high season, we had access to the road that led from N-340 directly to the beach, so that was nice. There was adequate parking, even though it was a perfect beach day.
There are some other details that I think visitors should know, though. It is called a playa nudista -- but on the day we were there, less than 25 percent of the beachgoers were nude. So it's not a nudist beach in the classic sense. I understand this is a point of contention: Nudists feel as if their haven is slowly being taken away by tourists. We were glad we brought our own umbrella, because we were told that all the sun beds and umbrellas had been "reserved." We didn't know one should or could be reserved, but FYI. The beach was clean and pleasant, but not all that big, so you can't go for a long stroll along the water.
It was also very windy, which is refreshing for laying in the sun, but was torture on our umbrella. The biggest issue, to me, was getting in the water. The waterline is pebbly, but you can't go in too far before encountering large, smooth boulders. Shoes are highly recommended, but these rocks prevent bathers from going in the water even up to their shoulders. The water was chillier the day we were there -- 72F, 22C -- but the big boulders prevented just plunging in. The water is very inviting, but bathing was difficult. It's a beautiful beach, but not an ideal one for swimming.Written September 24, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The history of the castle is rather interesting and there were a couple of small exhibitions open when we visited.Written June 14, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The cacti are spread across the hill just below the castle walls, so a lot of steps. A good array with some very impressive specimens.
At ground level, the birds make a very noisy accompaniment to the visit. The many species of water birds all living together are a delight. The caged birds are mostly in large pens with room to fly around.
Worth a visit.Written May 22, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The opens pace at the top of the cliff with the cross is.. well, and open pace with a huge cross that is lit in the evenings. The view of the Town, the coast and the beaches are spectacular though. This is a good place to watch the sunrise or the sunset. If you are lucky you can spot Dolphins playing in the water in the mornings. The walk up isn´t difficult, but if you use a wheelchair it is quite another matter.Written October 13, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - OK ClaessonStockholm, Sweden454 contributionsOur entry tickets to Castillo de San Miguel included the visit here to this museum. Wear Good walking shoes as you have a Hill to climb. Not much left to see of what is left but it is very interesting. In spanish and english. The lady at the front too was very nice, ready to share information. Atmosphere was that of curiousity, history, calm and quiet as People took it all in. Impressive how they have managed to keep it together. No bathrooms available. Thank you for sharing your country's history with us. MUST SEE!!!Written July 12, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Beezle47Porthcawl, UK82 contributionsWe visited off-season and there is a car park but signs to say the Marina is private but others were wandering in so we did too.
It is a pretty little marina, surrounded by hills and greenery. There are a couple of cafes though I imagine that it might be hard to get a table in high season. Well worth a visit though if you can go when it's quiet.Written March 13, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. When you are in the vicinity, take the time to visit part of these remnants. - betterthanworkNottingham, UK1,337 contributionsThe beach sand was quite dark, possibly tainted by the recent Calima. A nice tree lined promenade to walk along.Written March 31, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- janet1011Dublin, Ireland89 contributionsWould be good for families, but not as good for just adults to go as there is only a few adult slides. The staff, for the most part, seem pretty unenthusiastic, although some of them were friendly. I have to say though that it is run very efficiently compared to Siam Park in Tenerife which is a mess, so it's gets marks for that. Has some nice food options and has a bar also.Written August 26, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- BluerhinodorisChristchurch, UK186 contributionsWe enjoyed this walk with the dog several times during a recent holiday. It's well paved for most of it's length which makes it stable underfoot and leads to several bays. It's quite steep in places but it means you earn that beer and tapas! Just watch out for the hairy caterpillars which were out a bit earlier this year because of the mild winter (we were there in February). They are lethal for dogs so make sure you watch your fur friend.Written March 8, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Helena O1 contributionNew English owners this year who are very welcoming. Open from 9 am to 8 pm Tuesday to Sunday, closed Monday. €8 per person for the day. Kitchen closes at 6 pm. You can’t take your own drinks or food in with you. Menu choice is a little limited and on the pricey side - salad, humus, burgers, pizza. No paella any more. Were happy to cook pasta for my daughter and said if we phone in advance they would get in food for her to eat. My son asked for a Blue Lagoon and whilst they did not know how to make it they looked it up on Google and hey presto it was made perfectly! Pool lovely and clean and new sunbed cushions this summer. - mateus77711 contributionsGreat spot for snorkel swim and quiet beach overall. Limited food options but there is one restaurant and small kiosk if needed (or take your supplies). Follow the directions on maps for the marina and take a right at bottom of road, free parking also some back up the hill (on left side only).Written September 3, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
