What travelers are saying
- simpangratisIrvine, CA465 contributionsYes everything is fake, but a very well made fake. I have seen many of the originals in their respective museums, so it is a joy to see them in one place. Parking is not on site, they provide bus to the museum. Price is steep, little discount (no time stamp) buying on line. No guards to watch our every move, so liberating! Restaurant and cafe are well priced (like most of the restaurants in Japan).Written November 23, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - RyuSetagaya, Japan5,492 contributionsNaruto Whirlpool from the above on the Onaruto Bridge. Originally it was planned for the Shinkansen railroad to be put. After the plan was canceled, it was turned into a Naruto whirlpool viewing spot. A little scary for those with acrophobia, but this really is a good viewing spot for the Naruto Whirlpool. The Bandō prisoner-of-war camp exhibit was fascinating, too. Beethoven's Ninth Symphony was performed here the first time in Japan and that is the root of its numerous performances at the end of each year.Written June 25, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - lilyrosemarySingapore, Singapore407 contributionsBy the time we are done with boat ride, the whirlpools have gotten smaller as we stopped for lunch.
It is a 10 min walk from observatory to beginning of bridge. It is another 10-15 min to viewing platform.
Entrance fee includes a beautiful post card.Written January 20, 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Be sure to check time change times for the best water flow. The rush of water from the higher side to low is quite spectacular and does include whirlpools for which it is famous but the water flow at the ends over the rocks is equally spectacular as are boats passing through the channel.Written September 13, 2015This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Lara NTakamatsu, Japan147 contributionsThis shrine complex is very expansive, and tucked into the mountains, so is a nice place to walk around....there is even a stream running through the grounds. We went on New Year's Day, and it was PACKED with visitors, but extremely festive with food and gift stalls set up along the paths. The shrine itself is very photogenic, as is a 1000 year old tree planted in front of it. Definitely one of the more beautiful shrines we have visited in Shikoku.Written January 2, 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - ChoongSHBukit Mertajam, Malaysia448 contributionsActually, the main purpose is to take a view of the bridge, I think one of the most beautiful and also to walk to the centre of the bridge to take a look at the whirlpool. You need to buy ticket to enter and walk to the centre of the bridge. And to go from Takamatsu station, you need to take the local train to Naruto Station, then walk to the opposite Naruto JR station to Naruto bus station. Then take the bus to Naruto Koen (Naruto park), please get the bus schedule from the Tourist information counter (is on the left of Naruto JR station). To return to Naruto JR station, you have to use the same bus (please check the time table).Written November 3, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Lara NTakamatsu, Japan147 contributionsThis is the first temple on the 88-temple Shikoku pilgrimage, and is well worth a visit, even if you do not plan on doing the entire trek. The temple grounds are fairly small, but beautifully landscaped with a koi pond in the middle. This is the place to go for all of your "o-henro goods," or supplies for the pilgrimage, from white clothes to walking stick, prayer beads to maps of the temples.Written January 2, 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - VokestarTokushima, Japan2 contributionsIf you like beautiful scenery and enjoy going for a drive then you must visit the Naruto Skyline. In a sports car or motorcycle this would be even more thrilling as there are a lot of elevation changes and many turns. Nice views of the ocean are everywhere you look.Written March 14, 2015This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
If you want to know and study a heartwarming story held in Tokushima, Japan just after the end of World War I, it's a good place to visit. That time, there were several POW camps in Japan to keep Germans captured in Tsingtao, China which Japan took over from Germany to occupy. One of them was Bando Camp, which is the reason why The Naruto German House was build. It was an exceptionally good camp for those captives because the general manager Toyohisa Matsue tried his best to offer comfortable environment as much as possible. They enjoyed their lives by making vegetables, building furnitures, publishing newspaper, playing music and so on. They also had good relations with local Japanese, and they helped to enrich their lives by teaching advanced German culture. The Naruto German House is the evidence that human beings can show conscience even in the time of depression.Written August 22, 2015This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Do not miss the centuries old camphor tree and the small "wishing" jizo placed outside the Hondo. Lovely temple set up right at the foothills of a mountain. The people in the nokyocho office were very helpful with giving directions to the next temple.Written November 12, 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
