We parked at the start of the walk which was just opposite the Hotel Genzianella.

There was a fairly wide path all the way up to the Lake, although it was slightly uphill - the altitude gain was 92 metres. It was a beautiful walk largely through conifer woods which restricted much of the views until we were not that far from the Lake.

The Lake was small but a beautiful aqua green colour. Unfortunately it started to rain as we were walking up to the Lake and it continued the whole time that we were there so we didn't see any of the reflections from the mountains that others have commented upon. The vistas though were still panoramic. The Lake is fed from the Pietra Rossa Lake and is at an altitude of 2,066 metres.

We decided to walk around the Lake which took about 20 minutes. There is a bridge to cross at one end whilst at the other end you walk across stepping stones in the water. The walk around it though is easy and flat.

    Lovely outing.

We’ve stopped here a few times on our way to/from France and it is a really nice place. Huge mountains, great views of glaciers and friendly restaurants

This is another medieval church, it was mentioned in Papal documents in 1176, that has been substantially remodelled and rebuilt over the centuries. It appears that the current layout is the result of restoration and expansion work that began in 1687 and finished in 1705 when it was consecrated.

Externally the church is constructed of exposed stone. The austere, unadorned facade with its small arched portico supported at the front by two small columns on stone pedestals shows evidence of several restructuring works. The Romanesque tower was in existence in the 14th century although the copper dome-shaped cusp that sits atop the tower was a 19th century addition.

The interior of the church has three naves separated by square columns with arches. The ceilings are rib-vaulted and in the case of the central nave, are richly painted and decorated. The ceilings in the two side naves were painted white. There was a marvellous fresco of the Last Supper on the left side of the central nave dating from 1559 as well as some 15th century frescoes in one of the side chapels. Other than these the remaining frescoes are the work of 18th and 20th century artists.

The high altar is a mass of friezes, gilded sculptured woodwork and marble and dates back to the early 18th century. There are also several very ornate altars in chapels at the end of, and in the walls, of the side naves.

The baptistery has a large carved stone bowl as well as a fantastic 14th century carved wooden crucifix. There is also a display of the church's museum relics in the left side wall.
