Breathtaking. You will find yourself inside of a mountain overlooking the sea. The sea colors are amazing, as well as the legend connected with the place itself. Highly recommended!

It's the first time we visit a castle that was only used as a prison. Its history is fascinating and the amazing view on the sea and the entire city it's just a plus! The guide told us everything about the castle's history, as well as the prisoners' life inside of it. Very recommended!

Of course it’s also because this is my home, but I guess it’s not only me thinking that this place it’s one of the most incredible around the area of Riviera D’Ulisse. The long beach it was called before “Arenauta” ; now there’s different bathhouses and beach clubs. The beach called “300 gradini” (don’t confuse it with “300 scalini”) it’s one of the most famous, with this long staircase from the principal road down to the beach (are 300 stairs for real! a perfect gym to do on the way back at the end of the day!). Sure it’s not the best place to come if you’re searching for an easy holiday with all the comforts, but on the other side it’s perfect if you want to enjoy a beautiful see surrounded by nature .
If you are travelling with the car, it’s possible to leave it in one of the parking area on the street; from there it’s possible to walk or to come with the free taxi service.
My suggestion is always to rent a motorcycle, a scooter, to move around this area, to avoid traffic and all parking issues.
Here it’s possible to rent beach equipment or to go to the free area. Not so far from the down there’s also a naturalistic area if you feel comfortable with it! 🤗
Low prices and familiar atmosphere. My advice is to come here in the periods of June or September when the beach is not too crowded.

In general the beach open at 8:30am and close at 7:00pm . Cost to the access it’s 2€ each.

There’s no specific restrictions because of the Covid-19, except that if you want to reserve equipments, it’s only possible through their website or calling them (+39 0771 640600).

Lovely medieval town, with plenty of interesting places to visit. Lovely park right on the doorstep. Plenty of reasonably priced restaurants. Superb beach just around the headland.

We ended up sticking to close by the old city and went to palm beach on the strip and rented 2 umbrellas and 1 umbrella for €15. Super soft sand and shallow water for miles. Would recommend it for a relaxing day at the beach.

The Annuziata is nice but tucked away inside is the gold chapel with the painting of the Immaculate Conception by Pulzone. It was here in exile that Pope Pius IX formulated what was to become the dogmatic procamalation on the Immaculate Conception.

Well run, clearly marked, there are paths in every direction that lead you to cool new discoveries: the mausoleum (amazing), old ww2 artillery placements and barracks, churches, vistas of the ocean and Gaeta. We enjoyed it immensely, gorgeous views everywhere and not many people around. Absolute must if you are in Gaeta.

One of the best meals I’ve had in Italy. Fantastic and friendly service from the family, delicious fresh seafood, gorgeous views. Saw the most incredible sunset of my life from their terrace!

This church is located in a spectacular position. From the front of it there is an amazing sea view of the whole Gaeta Gulf, from Gaeta to Scauri and up to Napoli Gulf. The church been renovated recently and is very well presented.

Grotta del Turco it is a grotto which ends directly in the sea and where the waves create atmospheric effects of light. It is a picturesque hiding place of the ancient pirates. If you walk down with sunny weather a staircase with about 300 steps you arrive to the level of the sea you can enjoy wonderful the turquoise and green reflections of the sea on the walls of the grotto! The cave is popular among fans of free climbing.
Grotta Del Turco or the Cave of the Turkish got it's name because in the IX century, at the time of the Duchy of Gaeta, the ships of the Saracens landed and found refuge in the crevices of this strategic grotto so that they could surprise with their attack the ships in transit to plunder their cargoes.
If you have seen already the Montagnia Spaccata, it's worth pay a visit to also to Grotta Del Turco!

The cathedrals had been in repair of 30 years or more, I had been visiting Gaeta for this long. Only a few years ago was it opened and rededicated. The original must have been way before 12 th century. Inside is quite new, and in Baroque style.
It has 7 narrow aisles, the nave being widest. The pillars are of different eras, pilfered from ancient temples.
The most important is the candelabra stand, of 10-12 feet height, all carved in circular bands, scenes of st. Erasmus, and scenes of Christ. The floor is lovely mosaics in mosarabic patterns, on different small areas, recovered as best as available. Several are blocked on the walls on left side of the church

It is the crypt, that one enters on the Sam left side that is to me the most magnificent. The marble wide steps on 2 sides lead down to a landing that is laid in Bargello pattern in tricolori of white, grey and black. It stands out like 3 d, jumping out of the floor. Another few steps down and the floor at the chapel is the same pattern. This chapel is entirely baroque in style. A few statues , and painted panels on the wall.

Now, the Campanile. It works, and chimes/ tolls a little off the exact hour. But the sound is lovely. The walls are of brick, patterned. What is great is there are pieces of great marble carvings, on the stairs, that leads up to the Cathedral. (the cathedral is built on a slope of a rising hill). Outside one can spy 2 lion heads stuck on the wall, like a decoration, gleaming white marble, in the midday sun.
    Please go and visit.
