What travelers are saying
- Herbert C892 contributionsWhat more can be said about a glacial lake nestled amidst the Swiss Alps. Surrounded by mountains mirrored on the crystal clear lake and dotted by small towns on the lake shore and mountain cliffs, with the quiet serenity occasionally pierced by the sounds of seagulls and boats cruising the lake. Straddling the border of Switzerland and Italy, the lake is best explored from its namesake town, Lugano, where you can cruise the lake or simply take a glacial stroll along the shores. Absolutely picturesque!Written January 12, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- rajkkNew Delhi, India274 contributionsWe were luck to have a glorious sunny day on the day of our visit and the views from atop were stupendous.
The view of the Melide causeway was indeed spectacular and among the most beautiful sights we had see.
The summit has an eating establishment , though we did not try it, and has relevant bits of information placed all around.
The funicular ride is enjoyable and the originating base station is a quaint , colourful building that makes for good photographs.
The funicular car at the base station is clearly visible and is a nice background for photos.
One should check up on the operation dates of the funicular railway as it closes for a certain time-period for maintenance.Written January 8, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Gabriel MLas Vegas, NV26 contributionsI saw photos of this place before and couldn't believe that it looks like this. Finally when I got there all my dreams about Parco Ciani come through. - Marc OremiatzkiFort Garland, CO74 contributionsWhile some bulk at the very expensive CF 27.00 round trip funicular ride, others can drive or take a bus from downtown.
We walked one hour in the village and got spectacular views of Lake Lugano.

We were looking for a more rugged nature trail lined with olive trees but instead found a scenic lakeside pedestrian route lined with homes and a restaurant that happened to be closed. Not many olive trees in sight. A walk worth taking for sure, but doesn't live up to the hype.Written August 6, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. A lot of space to choose if you want to sit on grass, concrete or sand. Also a restaurant area, we didn’t try this time.Written July 6, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.

- AllanJGJWellington, New Zealand3,848 contributionsCertainly a cute village tumbling down the hillside. Lots of stairs if you like them but in reality not a lot that's unusual if you've spent time in this part of the world. If you're time is limited I wouldn't put in top of your 'to-do' list, but if you do make sure you don't drive past it. In effect there's nothing to see from the road. You need to find the carparks at the top and walk down.Written April 23, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Albrecht CTucson, AZ163 contributionsRight next to the train station. High above the city; tough to walk up. Very Baroque interior, but some nice medieval art works.Written June 1, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
