What travelers are saying
- Susan D2 contributionsThis Cathedral is the northernmost Medieval Cathedral in the world. The west front alone is worth a visit. Inside guides are available for answering questions and guided tours can be arranged in a a variety of languages. The carving is amazing and a pair of binoculars or a telephoto lens will allow the viewing of gargoyles of complex and varying design.Written January 20, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - UKTurkeyTrotteruk748 contributionsThis is a fascinating place with a good collection of all sorts of musical instruments you've never even dreamt existed. 7 or 8 stringed violins, they were demonstrated but I couldn't tell the difference between them and a conventional violin.
The building is sort of 1/2 courtyard shape, rooms nicely furnished and then we were given short piano recital by a ?student? and our guide. Pretty wonderful.
They also have a small gift shop where i was able to buy a CD, by 1 of the female composers he mentioned in his talk, Backer Grondahl Piano Works. Great CD lovely music and one wonders why she is not better known. A thoroughly good experience and definitely worth a visit.Written September 7, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Boyd JMaleny, Australia1,688 contributionsWe strolled over the Old Town Bridge, which is locally known as Lykkens Portal, or the Portal of Happiness. There are excellent views of the colourful buildings that line both sides of the Nidelva River.Written August 19, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Dan TLondon, UK64 contributionsYouโll spot this fortress perched on the hillside from many parts of the town. Itโs well worth the venture upward to visit it and itโs only a 5-10 minute walk from the old town bridge area. Just keep heading up the hill with the bicycle elevator (itself a point of interest, though it seems to see more use from curious tourists than locals) and itโs straight ahead.
There is a small circular walk you can do around the perimeter of the fort and when you leave there is a much easier route down through the adjacent park which proves a little less steep.
The fortress itself is an impressive building and you can learn more about its history by utilising the QR codes scattered around the site. If history isnโt really your cup of tea then you can come up here simply to enjoy the wonderful views over the town- a great panorama of the old town including the cathedral.Written October 18, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. My favourite was the Lynn Goldsmithโs photos this time. There is so much things to do and learn. It does not matter if You are not familiar with norwegian pop-culture or the language. There are so many things You can do! Also I would recommend this to families with children/teens.Written June 24, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - maija20182018Turku, Finland19 contributionsThis place gives a great view to Trondheim. It is easily accessible from downtown Trondheim with bus no 22. The tower has a restaurant so good stop for lunch, too.Written April 9, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Craig DWarrington, UK48 contributionsAs the tram ride was part of a cruise shore excursion they put the vintage tram on for us to ride, this does not stop at any of the other stations between Lian and the centre of Trondheim. It uses the same 8.8km line as the modern trams so you will pass these along the way. The journey time is about 25 minutes and it's a nice relaxing way to take in the local views.Written October 1, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Lisa A1 contributionThis is a beautiful place in the hills above Trondheim. I walked around the lake and it was very scenic and peaceful. I have to say, as an American from the West Coast, I was not expecting or prepared for the snow or ice I encountered in mid-May. I slipped and slid in several places and even fell once. Meanwhile, the Norwegians were running and biking over the ice with no issues. It actually kind of blew my mind. LOL. Still, this is a lovely forested hiking area with lakes and all different kinds of terrain. The Norwegian people I encountered were very kind and helpful giving me directions and, of course, they speak fluent English. I recommend this spot, just be prepared for snow and ice even in late Spring.Written July 1, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Starla SUnited States320 contributionsVery interesting museum. The staff is friendly and helpful. The cost was minimal. The museum is small but well laid out with 3 floors. I was most interested in the German occupation. A good way to spend 1 - 1 1/2 hours.Written October 20, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - tinkle_24Northampton, UK1,770 contributionsa lot better than the cathedral for us. Much better preserved and big four years in front. Sturdy columns and an authentic gateway.Written January 27, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
