God family time, walking area but good for biking as well; lots of little shops with hot tea, ho chocolate, Kurtos Kalacs. The outer ring has fish ponds, good attraction for small children

Beautiful, highlight of the city. I am not religious but this place is beautiful. I do not know if I was lucky or if they do it everyday but they were having a mass and the singing was being echoed on speakers places around the outside gardens.

It is a very simple church, but is a nice church to visit for a couple of minutes on the citadel of Alba Iulia. From the outside it is more impressive than from inside.

Worth the 10 minute visit. It has free entrance and you can see a few documents from the time of the Great Union. Don't expect too much

The Obelisk was erected between 1935 and 1937 - at it's inauguration in 1937 Charles II former King of Romania and his son Mihai I - last King of Romania were present.
The inauguration in 1937 was done to commemorate 150 years since the execution - I would mention here brutal execution - of the leaders of the peasant uprising 1784.
Horea, Closca and Crisan - the leaders are represented on a bas relief at the back of the Obelisk - this were there nicknames if you like ... I will not enter into details about the uprising ... bottom line is, peasants from Transylvania, Romanian, Hungarians, Germans ethnics have risen against the rule of the Habsburg empire - after 1 of the leaders met a few times with the emperor asking for better treatment for the people, rights and a some freedom. The uprising was repressed brutally by the forces of the Habsburg empire and the 3 leaders were executed in Alba Iulia.
The Obelisk is 20 m high it is to be found in front of the 3rd gate of the fortress so it is easy to access and visiting is free of charge.

Pisoaia waterfall and the surroundings have that special charm you almost expect fairies or trolls to come out from under the rocks. It's worth going there and admire nature's work.

I think this is the best place to visit in the Citadel. The cost is 20 lei and the views are amazing. You have multiple locations to see.

We came across the museum by chance. It holds a collection of old hand written church books, and icons on both wood and glass. The site includes artifacts from the Roman Empire, and it used to host a military hospital.

Recently inaugurated, squeaky clean and a nice fresh respite from the August heat.

Inside the Citadel of Alba Carolina and more specifically in the Saxon bastion you shall find this place.
It is composed of 3 sections:
    1. is the "Hall of Arms" a section of the former Saxon bastion that was incorporated in the fortification that were brought to the current phase during the Habsburg times.
    2. is a "connecting" hall where remains of the Roman fortifications from the Castrum of Apulum were incorporated in the fortifications of the early middle ages.
    3. is the so called "Hall of Knights" that is decorated in the early medieval style with references to the Knight Templars.
Visiting on your own might take away form the "wow factor" of the place and for sure will get the most of it if you are going to visit the place with a guide , however my recommendation stays, visit the place either ways , if you have the opportunity for a guided tour pick that one.
Go and enjoy an immersion in the past centuries and journey back to time of the Knight Templars - it is worth it.

The captivating Mănăstirea Dumbrava (Dumbrava Monastery) is near Unirea Alba County about 1 km from the E81. A church bell and beautiful paintings at the entrance direct you towards the tranquil garden. Take a leisurely walk across a bridge pavilion made of cherry wood that leads to the exquisite Dumbrava Monastery. Inside the house of worship are wonderfully brilliant portraits of the saints. Outside the building and down the hill is a little zoo for the children and elderly that live on the grounds. Just across from the animals resides another magnificent garden.
