What travelers are saying
- Helen DBrixton, UK24 contributionsLike others have said, you can see the difference that lots of money makes to prettying up surroundings for animals - this is more basic. However, all the animals were in good condition and healthy, with fairly normal behaviours despite being in a zoo - the Arctic wolves were affectionate to each other, and curious, running freely, the Orangutans interacting and fascinated by us, red squirrels whizzing around, birds freely wandering the aviaries, carnivores eyeing up the two workmen in the adjacent enclosure as a potential snack, and the butterflies were just wonderful, as others have said. It had been pouring the day before and some enclosures were muddy and churned up but the animals. I won't visit zoos unless they have a breeding programme, and this one has some success with species we humans have endangered. Labels all in Spanish so take a dictionary to answer childrens' questions. Limited shop and basic but clean loo facilities; the cafe was not open when we were there on a Wednesday morning last week.Written October 15, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - redhead_roamingSeattle, WA2,919 contributionsWe came here June 1st, 2022 (a Wednesday) but didn't arrive until abut 6:15pm, so after they closed. It wasn't a goal of ours to go inside so we were perfectly content with admiring the outside. It's very attractive and goes well with the beauty of this town, known for its medieval & Renaissance looks.Written May 20, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - macedonboyGlasgow, UK179,691 contributionsOne of the larger public squares in the town of Santillana del Mar, though not the historic centre. Some of the principal sites of the town including Torre del Merino, Torre de Don Borja and the Town Hall are located here. You’ll also find wonderful examples of charming Cantabrian architecture at the square. The only downside is that the square isn’t overly endowed with cafes, but it’s only a small town.Written December 17, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Adalbert PAtlanta, GA22 contributionsWe came here from Santillana del mar as it was a very short drive and fell in love with this small secluded beach and the Ermita de Santa Justa. The waves come in hard against the rocks but are calm once they reach the sandy beach. The ermita is a very short walk up a hill on the opposite side of the beach. Very relaxing and very enjoyable.Written September 2, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.

There's a tourist office where you can get a map of the points of interest in the town. About 2km from the centre is the Museo de Altamira, which is definitely worth a visit.
Be careful not to visit on a Sunday or Monday though as the museums are closed, which makes things less interesting.Written December 18, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. There is an interesting pre exhibition and then you enter a mock up of the caves.
We found it interesting and worth the trip.Written September 24, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Many of the most significant landmarks of the town are on this street including Palacio Peredo Barreda, Casa del Águila and Casa la Parra. The street is charming, although you will have to run the gauntlet of tourist shops as well.Written December 16, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - stephrabNew York City, NY726 contributionsA delightful small regional museum that lets you walk through one of the old buildings in town. An interested photo display of their annual festival. Worth the time.Written June 18, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
