What travelers are saying
- Diogo P1 contributionSuper interesting and exciting display of nebulas, galaxies, swarms of baby and young stars through two telescopes even when the weather conditions were not the best.Written March 10, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Cosmo29Waterloo, Canada182 contributionsWe decided to make this a stop on our way back from Lagos to Lisbon. So glad we did what a wonderful surprise- the 360’ views were incredible and it truly took you back in time. - CymroCoimbra, Portugal3,357 contributionsMonsaraz is a 'must visit' place if you are exploring Portugal. Located on a hill, not far from the Spanish border, it is like a village frozen in time. Cars are not allowed to enter, but there is sufficient parking outside the village and a short walk (uphill) to the main entry gate. The streets are all cobbled and there is an abundance of things to visit and see. There are a variety of restaurants, mostly Alentejo cuisine, some of them offering vegetarian and vegan alternatives.Written November 22, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - NXTTRPSt. Petersburg, FL2,573 contributionsWe drove by the Convento da Orada a couple of times and stopped on both sides of it, looking for some sort of activity. We saw nothing and it appears that it’s been quiet here for a number of years.
It’s a huge building, and, as they say, “if these walls could talk...”
I, for one, couldn’t understand what the walls were saying as I don’t speak Portuguese.Written May 20, 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. When we left we turned left and wandered around looking signs to direct us to one of the many that were around. We drove down a dirt road to find us all alone with the stone seems to radiant energy.Written March 22, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - CymroCoimbra, Portugal3,357 contributionsThere is a pelourinho in almost every Portuguese city, town and some villages. It is a symbol of the municipal power of the place and criminals were usually tied or chained to it when punished. It is argued that pelourinhos are Roman in origin, as Roman settlements had a pillar for much the same purpose. The marble Pelourinho de Monsaraz is located in the main square, which you will find 100 metres to your left after entering the main gateway into the town.Written November 22, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - NXTTRPSt. Petersburg, FL2,573 contributionsThe Casa da Inquisicao provides a background of the Jewish faith in the history of Monsaraz. Some of the information is presented in an “opinionated” perspective, and you may not agree, or be aware of, what you read regarding the displays.
Buying a ticket to the Museu do Fresco grants you admission to House of the Inquisition. It’s just down the street. Make sure you see the entire venue; you have to go up stairs on the outside to see it all.
This is a small exhibition; give it a few minutes.Written May 18, 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Despite the fact that there are no walls nor fences around, it is in good conditions and you can visit it at any time.Written August 22, 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - CymroCoimbra, Portugal3,357 contributionsThe cistern is only viewable through a metal grill in a wall. There is no illumination inside so it is not possible to se much. The cistern at Marvão offers far better viewing. Just beyond the cistern are some steps you can climb which takes you to a terrace which offers views over the surrounding countryside.Written November 22, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Chris BSan Luis Obispo, CA4 contributionsDuring our stay, went to the church to see it. A very typical one for the time period. It has a lot of history in the area. Was able to attend mass while we where there.Written September 15, 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
