- James HoustonUnited Kingdom15 contributionsNice views driving upto carpark, there was plenty of space and toilets. The walk round was nice and peaceful. Town at bottom of road is really nice aswellWritten August 19, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Vicki RVenice, FL6 contributionsIt is a once-in-a-lifetime chance that we happened to learn that the Braemar Gathering (aka the Scottish Highland Games) were to take place on the one free day we had in the area during our three weeks in Scotland in 2023. We purchased our tickets in March via phone, and received them via mail in late April. We found transportation from Edinburgh with a Grayline bus (I believe) and enjoyed the rides to and from, but most especially, enjoy the events and the food offerings. Our seats were brilliant, despite apologies from the person with whom I spoke. Second row where we could see 3-4 of the games going on at any time. The atmosphere was delightful; the weather cooperated; the age range of the audience was infant to 90+. The food lines were very long, but we eventually got our fish and chips with a beer. Bathrooms - portapotties - were clean and we never waited long. Can you imagine how much fun it was, and an honor, too, when the Royal Family came? Charles, his sister and Camilla. After viewing the festivities and giving out some trophies, they drove past us in our 2nd row, waving to all. What a thrill!Written October 25, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- ajkedarSouth Lanarkshire, UK470 contributionsWe love the walk up Glen Lui to the lodge and very much a favourite of ours. Will be couple of weeks till the heather in full bloom to enhance the super scenery.
Walk starts from car park at Bridge of Dee near Marr Lodge. £3.00 charge but plenty toilets. Recommend walk.Written July 29, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. You can get quite close to the locked gates by pulling in to the side of the road leaving Braemar to Ballater & you get a terrific view coming from Ballater just before you reach the castle. Stop & marvel! It looks nothing like the photos on it's website - it is now gorgeous brilliant white & looks like a cross between a disney palace & a space ship! So sad not to be able to go inside & explore properly. No evidence of workmen on site, so not sure what still needs to be done, but it looks as if the decorators have only just left!Written August 29, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Chris JUpton Snodsbury, UK23 contributionsLoved the setting and the scenery at Glenshee. We stayed in Ballater, so it was a 45 min drive to Glenshee. The cafe is good although the queue at times was over half an hour which was a bit annoying. The queue also for ski hire was painful, two hours we queued for skis and boots for my 4yr old boy. He had lost the will by the time we got them. At the time we were there the only way to get a lift pass was to queue, the phone app wasn’t working. My boy loved the sledging and there are quite a few good places for sledging at Glenshee. I really hope they have a good season financially have some budget to spend on improving the toilets, and the ski lifts, so that the queueing time can be reduced.Written January 21, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Victoria BRaleigh, NC1,632 contributionsThe Braemar Highland Games Centre is very beautiful! We were here for the Braemar Gathering in September, so that was an event in itself and we didn't have time to tour the buildings. I'd love to go back sometime and spend some time exploring and seeing everything without the crowds. The new platinum jubilee archway is very nice. I would have had no idea it was brand new, but like everything else, it looked well maintained.Written April 24, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Hannah M6 contributionsStunning walks around & up this hill
Also walk along the Queens Drive & pass an old cottage belonging to Mr Browns brother. The track along the road is walkable but not as easy goingWritten October 6, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. One of the Bristol Pegasus XVIII engines was recovered from the crash site, and set onto a stone plinth, with the names of the airmen inscribed on a metal plaque.
It’s set in a lovely situation beside the war memorial, and close to the Braemar Bridge.Written June 9, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Regrettably too many people don’t realise that if it hadn’t been for these people life would be very different now! Beautiful and peaceful setting .Written September 29, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- George R1 contributionPlayed the course in a gale, but made it more fun. Made par on the stroke 01 into the wind which was a bonus.
Beautiful valley to play in and the course is good fun. Playing solo it took me just over 2 hours to get around. There’s 7 par threes and the longest hole is just over 400yrds so a quick walk around.
Stand out holes for me was 2, 4, 6, 13 and 17.
There’s a little burn that runs through the course that seems to swallow many balls, and the course has ball retrievers all along the burn which is a nice touch.
There was a lot of rain the last few days up in Braemar, so the course was a bit wet but that is 100% fine.
Greens were in good condition as well, unfortunately my putting wasn’t!Written September 30, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. A useful info leaflet was made available at its entrance. Although this was a small and simple castle ruin, it told the story about a turbulent era and the influence it had in the region.Written September 1, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - craigluscarDunfermline, UK13,606 contributionsSt Margaret’s Church was built between 1899 and 1907 for the Scottish Episcopal Church . It is a major work by the prominent Aberdeen-born architect Sir John Ninian Comper. A fine interior with a superb ornate rood screen, dedicated to the memory of the church’s principal benefactor: Eliza Schofield. Outstanding stained glass, all by Comper, spanning two decades . A very beautiful building now used as a performance and Exhibition hall it is run by the Historic Churches trust . We visited the Allison Chandler art Exhibition this May and found it very moving . The church itself is stunningWritten May 18, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
