What travelers are saying
- GaryBrazelBrooklyn, NY538 contributionsIt is a short trip out from Madrid to get here. You can day trip it but I recommend sleeping over. The audio guide is well worth getting as it offers interesting detailed information.Written February 1, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - shinhangaPlainville, Connecticut127 contributionsThis fascist monument, once one of Spain's leading tourist attractions, is little visited nowadays, but the architecture still as interesting as it ever was, and construting a large basilica inide a mountain is an engineering marvel. The trip to Valley of the Fallen is usually combined with a visit to El Escorial, and makes a nice not-too-strenuous day trip.Written October 21, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - ClunkNebbermorthCardiff, UK476 contributionsVery busy, and you need a car to get there. Lots of walking in the hills around, and the view is splendid. Go early or late if you can.Written November 12, 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- hans-jaguarSanta Comba Dao, Portugal22,328 contributionsThis great and conventual church carved into the rock, phenomenal if you look at the internal dimensions, it must have been a titanic job to realize all this. And then the spectacular cross on top of the hill. The main altar is a wonderful work of art, and on its sides are the tombs of Charles I and the Empress Isabel and those of Philip II and his wives. A great work that has survived to this day and where we can enjoy many artistic works of painting. There is enough parking, the only thing is that you are not allowed to take pictures at the inside, there are several security people walking around, for the rest in one worth amazing.Written October 23, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Ogi0Sofia, Bulgaria20,971 contributionsVery interesting renaissance library built by King Philip II. Located in the El Escorial complex, photography inside is prohibited. However, the visit is worth it. The frescoes on the ceiling are exceptional, and there are many preserved medieval books.Written May 9, 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - shieldsmona50 contributionsdown under the cathedral is the burial tombs for the kings of over 300 years of rule in Spain, to see the many burial places of the children and princes was very moving.Written November 14, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Boris BBelgrade, Serbia2,420 contributionsLovely little garden around the small house built for Infante of Spain in XVIII century. It is free of charge, a short walk from the Monastery of El Escorial. The view of the monastery is simply stunning. The price for the entrance to the house is 3€ and it has to be purchased at El Escorial. We thought it is a bit overpriced and we did not go in.Written June 13, 2016This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Beatriz MDüsseldorf, Germany5,710 contributionsThe park is okay, it is not very big and for me it did not pose any unique photo opportunity however it was good to spend some time there after having lunch and having visited the big Royal Site. It was a sunny Wednesday and the park was pretty much empty. I did not go inside the house of the Prince but took photos in front of it.Written April 29, 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
