Unbelievable how well all these paintings have survived. The pictures don't do the experience justice.
It is absolutely worth it to drive a fair distance to Galatina only to see this basilica.
Do it! You won't regret it.
(In Otranto there is the Basilica di San Pietro which is similar but they don't seem to have their opening times under control.)Written February 29, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Historic centre full of ancient churches, good restaurants, cafeterias, monuments. Been there for a week and had a marvellous stay. Explore the region from this city, it has lots to offer!Written June 12, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - MKM39Pennsylvania25 contributionsHard to say how long you need to see this...it depends on your interest for detail and there is SO much of that. We had about 30 minutes but I am going back to spend more time! What an amazing place! And don't miss the little, restored pipe organ at the end on the left. A story-book church like few others!Written May 14, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- CateHikes67 contributionsWe visited, without an appointment, and Eduardo (who runs it with his brother) kindly gave us over an hour of his time to tour the facility. We then tasted any of the wines we desired as well as the olive oil they produce. We loved everything we tasted--bought a couple of cases! Their Primitivos and Negromanos are wonderfully rich and nuanced as well as one they blend together with both grapes. Their white blend is also noteworthy--Chardonnay and Sav Blanc if I recall correctly. Location is just outside Galatina so hard to miss, large gate with their sign very prominent. They also have a "filling station" so locals can come and fill their jugs--it was busy the entire time we were tasting so they have a strong local following. Great wines for 7-15E on average a bottle.Written October 8, 2016This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Journeyman101London20 contributionsWe entered while Albinoni's adagio was being played by an organist and violinist during a wedding and sat at the back. The frescoes have to be seen to be believed. A truly uplifting experience.Written June 30, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Always4TravellingNew York City, NY378 contributionsIt is wonderful to admire Galatina for its art and architecture all around. This "Lamapada senza Luce" is a great example of the artistic displays of this city. This monument is in the center of the town with ample parking around it. Be careful when straying via car in this area, however, as certain streets are ZTL zones only for pedestrian traffic or registered automobiles.Written July 18, 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
