- Takarasina2,101 contributionsActually, our guide brought us there for me to buy a fridge magnet since it's really a challenge in non-touristic Kemerovo.
It was in the beginning of August, the weather was very good so we decided to take advantage of the circumstances and to explore the place a little bit further. Well, that was an experience!
One of the things a western tourist may find curious is that large-scale coal mining was started in Kemerovo by a French-German-Belgian joint-stock company called Kopikuz in 1912. Emperor Nicholas II of Russia awarded it a concession lasting till 1972 (!). Later, when communists came to power, another foreign structure named Kuzbass Autonomous Industrial Colony managed most of the mines in 1921-1926. (Ironically, it was Lenin who personally asked experts from "bourgeois" countries to come to Russia to assist him in building socialism.) More than 300 people did a lot to restore production and they were rewarded in the favourite communist way - pressed out of the country, sent to gulags and murdered as saboteurs and foreign spies. Repulsive!
All in all, the museum is rather nice, informative and even cute plus there's a good view of the city therefrom.
I'd recommend to go there: Kemerovo is not the place to offer that much to a tourist.Written September 1, 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. I would go on daily walks around it for exercise and always enjoyed it. I've been here in all four seasons now and can say that it's a big, flat park that is well-maintained, safe to walk in and very pleasing on the eye. The military vehicles just give it a different dimension, and I have used it as a teaching venue with students where they were inspired to produce excellent pieces of workWritten December 11, 2014This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Takarasina2,101 contributionsIt is a monument to miners in general.
We saw it in mid-August during our private city tour of Kemerovo. Its author is a famous Soviet sculptor Ernst Neizvestny who later emigrated to US and was immediately labelled "a traitor" by communists. When they went bankrupt with their ideas and practice, he proceeded working for the country he'd left and that huge statue in Kemerovo is one of such examples. It is his gift to the city.
Great piece of art, excellent location, popular place among locals. Symbol of Kemerovo.
Strongly recommended. Nicely illuminated by night.Written September 1, 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. She explained all about the history of the region, its industries such as mining, chemical production, how the land was settled 70 years ago, the varied display of artefacts and who they were donated to and why. From this information the students were able to produce some great poems connected to the Kemerovo region. Well worth a visit and I would recommend it to anyone visiting the city.Written September 12, 2013This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Takarasina2,101 contributionsI was there in the middle of August together with my friends and relatives. Our hotel was situated right by the Tom' river so it was only logical for us to start exploring the city therefrom.
Tom' is neither mighty nor broad in the downtown. It's also pretty muddy. Still, it gives a pleasant impression due to its calmness, green banks, reed beds and other natural ornaments which are so rare to find in the center of a modern city.
Its embankment radiates joy, relaxation and bonhomie, especially in the evening. People strolling at leisure, moms walking with their toddlers, teenagers massaging their skateboards, older people leaning on parapets. Mild music, warm lighting, pets playing with each other, people making selfies and eating ice cream. We loved that great ambience of a city lazing after a working day.
Strongly recommended! You'll hear Kemerovo's heartbeat.Written September 2, 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Centrally-located on the main street - Sovetsky prospect/avenue at the Fountain Square. Nice place to make pictures, especially during summer. Last years Kemerovo Drama theatre plays and performances are going to be more modern and fashionable in dynamic changes. But still not yet succeded. All plays in Russian only.Written March 29, 2012This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- DAVID UMurmansk Oblast, Russia122 contributionsThis is the main public square in the centre of the city and is very easy to find. I've been there at various times of the year and am always amazed by the different things put on: open air traditional Kuzbass goods market, and now everything is getting geared up for the New Year festivities so the council have erected temporary ice hockey and skating rinks, beautiful huge statues of Ded Moroz and his grand-daughter Snegurochka, and a team of experts are mounting fantastic hand-carved ice sculptures. There are a lot of well-maintained climbing frames for small children, and plenty of benches to sit on and watch the day go by. The square has round-the-clock security personnel so it's a great, safe place to visit.Written December 11, 2014This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
