Fuerteventura is the second biggest of the Canary Islands but also one of the quietest.
All flights to Fuerteventura land at an airport just outside the town of Puerto del Rosario. An air-conditioned bus connects the airport to the town center, but many tourists prefer to take a taxi directly to the beaches. If you arrive on the island on a charter flight and have booked your accommodation with a travel agent, your transport to the hotel or beach resort is generally included in the cost of the holiday. Package holidays to the Canary Islands are popular, but several low-cost airlines offer cheap flights to Fuerteventura around the year.Â
Most visitors stay on the beaches, but it is a good idea to explore areas outside the beach resorts. An air-conditioned bus service connects many parts of the island, including the airport and the bigger towns such as Puerto del Rosalio and Correlejo. Many tourists hire a car to visit the different parts of the island and to move between the beaches.Â
It is also possible to travel onwards to the neighboring islands. Several ferry companies operate between the various islands in the Canary group and ferries connect Fuerteventura to Grand Canaria, Lanzarote and Tenerife.
More than 130 miles of white sandy beaches, combined with year-round sunshine and warm weather, bring visitors to this stunning island. Fuerteventura has fantastic opportunities for many water sports, including windsurfing, diving and water-skiing. The island attracts a lot of surfers and some of the best beaches for surfing are in Ran Tarajal, Corralejo and Tarajalejo. The inside of the island is known for its unique volcanic landscapes and hills, and there are many natural parks that can be visited independently or on an organized sightseeing tour. Hiking in the hills and through the parks is a popular activity.
All the beaches have a variety of restaurants and bars. Most restaurants cater for international tourists and serve foods from around the world, but there is also fresh seafood every night. The beach bars offer a good variety of nightlife, but it is not as excessive as on Tenerife or Gran Canaria.
Although a popular holiday destination, Fuerteventura is one of the least touristy of the Canary Islands. If you can travel outside the busiest tourist seasons and book your flights in advance, it is possible to find a very affordable airfare to Fuerteventura. Fuerteventura flights are easily found if you check out the various online travel sites that are available on the Internet.
