Hotel is just 5mins drive from Oboke station, we requested for shuttle pick up from the hotel prior to our arrival. Very large spread for the breakfast, they even provide english description and explanation of what every dish is, very meticulous. Hotel is just opposite the pleasure boat cruise and they offered a discount coupon to us when we checked in. This area is generally very quiet with not much touristy stuff around, on our first night we had to walk 30 mins to get to a local supermarket to get some food because we did not reserve the hotel's dinner. On our second night, we asked the counter if there was any convenience store nearby like 7-11 or lawsons to get our dinner, and they immediately arranged for their shuttle van to send us there and back. Very good service. So if you are planning to stay here for many nights, either you book the hotel's dinner in advance or pack your own cup noodles from other cities. The restaurant opposite the hotel closes early at 5pm. After 5pm ,the streets are pretty much empty and dark. Note that there is a onsen charge of 150 yen per person per night. We weren't aware of this when we booked the hotel through 2nd party sites and wasn't told by the staff when we checked in either. Even if you do not use the onsen, you still have to pay for the 150 yen. Thankfully it is not a big amount but I just wished the staff told us on the day we checked in so that we could have make full use of the onsen..

The characteristic of this Ryokan(Japanese style hotel) is the hot spring bath which can look down at the torrent of Oboke. Bathing of the morning is recommended. Dinner was a course dish mainly composed of sweetfishs, and the specialty was Chawanmushi(steamed egg custard with assorted ingredients) but I did not think it's delicious. staffs overflowed in hospitality very much. The room was clean and comfortable. I felt that the price was slightly high.

We stayed here for two nights which included half board (breakfast and dinners). The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful during our stay - explaining the meals in English and letting us know the rules around the different slippers! The onsen was nice at the end of the day, though I got the feeling that the other guests didn’t appreciate me being there. The room was huge and very comfortable. The meals were extensive and showcased local cuisines. This was a great central point to explore Obokekyo Gorge and Iya Valley

Great old Onsen hotel, next to Oboke Gorge. Japanese and Western rooms. Western room was spacious with en-suite. Yukata in the room to walk around the hotel. Onsen indoor and outdoor. Good! Personal welcoming with names and country flag at the entrance. Breakfast was Japanese, plentiful and attentive to special diet restrictions and delicious! Dinner was expensive, so we went out. Free parking, free Wi Fi. Discount for river cruise boats. Gem stone museum near the hotel warmly recommended! Well done,

A well-tended and welcoming hotel nested on the side of Oboke Gorge. Staff were incredibly nice and helpful, and assisted us with organising our public transport. The food was the highlight of the stay, some of the best traditional meals I've had in Japan so far. Large communal baths both inside and outside, rarely busy

I would like to thank everyone at Obokekyo Mannaka for being so friendly and helpful. As I couldn't speak Japanese, Ms Lee was able to communicate in mandarin, which made things a lot easier for me. They helped me with the bus and train details, and even though I made some last minute changes, they accommodated with a smile. That is great service! Food was good and it's very close to the oboke pleasure boat (just opposite the hotel). Thanks again to everyone at Obokekyo Mannaka!

we have been hopping around Japan, and finally got time to relax (after walking the vine bridge in Iya valley). The hotel is nice, the room was huge (10 units), and just perfect, with a view on the Oboke-kyo. The onsen is not extremely large or original, but has an indoor and an outdoor bath, where you relax, listening to the water in the rapids of the Yoshino-river. Dinner seemed to continue for ages, we lost count of the number of dishes, but it was all original and very tasty. And you get a small bottle of sake with it (we had one fruity and one dry, both good quality). Breakfast is the same quality again. If you consider the pick-up and drop-off service (Oboke station), the unllimited use of the onsen, the sumptuous dinner, and energising breakfast, the 200+ euro are absolutely justified

I booked this hotel due to the proximity to Iya valley. From the outside, the hotel doesn’t look very appealing, but the inside is actually very nice. The room (Japanese style) was smaller than other hotels but perfectly comfortable, especially with the futon. The rooms are indeed “Japanese style”, don’t expect the little balcony with chairs and tables you get in more luxurious ryokan. The Onsen is very nice, especially the open air one with views on the river! Yes, there is a bridge with occasional traffic, but that didn’t prevent me from having a relaxing time. I had the kaiseki dinner, it was really good and prepared with local ingredients. All the different plates were presented and explained in English by the staff. The highlight of the hotel was the staff though. Although I speak a little Japanese, they could speak a good English and that really helped. I was welcomed with my name on the entrance and the flag of my country. The staff was always very friendly and attentive. I even got a goodbye with the employee waving a huge French flag at me as I was driving away, and that was really touching.

I booked one night stay at this hotel and experience their great service upon arrival. We arrived the hotel in the morning and it’s not the time for check in. We decided to drop my baggage there and start our trip first. The temperature was a bit low on that day and the staff at reception gave us a warm welcome. Acknowledged that we come from Hong Kong and arrange a mandarins speaking staff to introduce everything to us. They give us a hand warmer, bus schedule and suggested route, discount coupon and direct us to our destination with big smile. After we finished our visiting, I saw our name and home town were listed on the guest list at the entrance. It’s quite surprising to me. During dinner time, the staff serving us was also mandarine speaking and I saw HK flag on the dinning table. I felt that this hotel is very caring and they are nice to visitors from different countries. We left on the next day, the staff drive us to station and say goodbye to us by shaking HK flag. This is an interesting experience to me~

We stayed there for 1 night. Room was comfortable, Kaiseki dinner was good, so as the onsen. They appointed a Taiwanese lady to assist us on check in and serving dinner. Following morning after check out, my aunt realised she had lost her ipad. She searched her own belonging and was not able to find it. We wanted to call the hotel which we had stayed the previous night at Kochi city to see if she had left it behind. Due to language problem, we approached Mr Shuji Ohira at reception for assistance. He then called another Taiwanese lady intern Ms Guo Cian Yu to help on translation. After explaining our problem, Mr Shuji Ohira promptly called that hotel to check. He called a total of 3 hotels in different locations, Kochi city, Yusuhara, Tosashimizu and Dogo Onsen, so as to help us locate the ipad. Ms Guo was patiently helping us to translate the message to Mr Shuji. Although the answers were negative, we really appreciate the tremendous assistance rendered by both of them with sincerity. When we offered to pay for the calls, he told us not to do so. They even took down my hotel contact in Takamatsu, in case they had good news for us. We received a courier from Ms Guo at the hotel in Takamatsu on the night before leaving for home. They did follow up on this case. We really felt that we had received excellent service from the both of you when we were helpless in a foreign land, not able to speak your language and when we needed much help at that moment. Thank you very much to both of you. Best regards
