Agriturismo Santa Chiara is a farm of ancient traditions surrounded by green olive and orange trees, a few kilometers from the sea of Gallipoli. Among the flavors and smells of the Salento countryside, Agriturismo Santa Chiara will make you live a unique experience, enhanced by the wonderful hospitality that has always distinguished, people and territory. The structure, restored by the Cataldi family using traditional materials and techniques, preserves the original type and volume of typical houses of Salento. The rooms for accommodation are equipped with every comfort and the typical restaurant - open on Saturday evenings and Sunday lunch - specializes in kitchen zero kilometer of genuine products and our own earth.

I see that others have rated this property much higher, but I simply can't understand why. Perhaps it was just August and everyone in Italy goes to Puglia, but I don't think so. This property is TIRED. When we arrived, we noticed that the grounds had not been maintained for some time. We found that the air conditioner in our room didn't work (the owner did his best to find a substitute system and we did get it repaired in two days time). Everything seems to have been neglected (see phots of cobwebs in chairs, broken rattan furniture, bad chairs at the pool). The breakfast was acceptable, but for the price it should have been much better. We were with friends (Italians) and when they were asked about the breakfast and said that there really wasn't anything they wanted (not a comment about the food but just about their dietary choices), the owner told them that he was kicking them out of the property. What?! He took their comment as an insult rather than a choice. It was ridiculous. We eventually got that straighten out. The owner complained to us that we didn't have breakfast at the property each day, but they didn't start serving until 8:30 and by then we were already gone on outings. While we were there they property hosted a wedding and two birthday parties, which meant music and noise until 2AM. They did cut the grass for those events so I suppose that was nice. We had dinner at the property once. The chef was good and friendly, a nice treat. I have included pictures of the reality of the common room so you won't be surprised. The WiFi was horrible. No service at all for many hours during the daytime. The rooms had inadequate power outlets, often only one was available. The beds were hard as rock, but this is typical of Italian accommodations. Here's what I would recommend. If you are used to Italian properties, you probably won't be too upset, but if you've traveled worldwide and paid more than 110 euro a night at other locations, you'll need to think twice before you choose this one. It needs a LOT of work and commitment from the management for guest comfort.

Response from Luigi Cataldi, Direttore generale at Agriturismo Santa Chiara
Responded Sep 8, 2020
VERGOGNA........

We did not expect a great place like this is labeled "agriturismo" The huge property offers lots of private space. Francesca and Antonio were very helpful and even printed our boarding pass. In my opinion the best the accommodation in the area.

From the first moment on we felt a good warm spirit of the house, of Antonio and his friendly staff. The creative cook uses local food and is interested in our individual needs and wishes. Although the old house can not compete with a modern hotel, the atmosphere, created by house, garden and staff makes your stay to a fine example of typical holidays in Puglia.

A lovely large country house surrounded by orange trees, run by a kind "landlord" who speaks adequate English. And the food... enjoyed a great meal with lots of veggies from the grounds surrounding the place. Rooms are clean, old fashioned and large, each with its own bathroom

We arrived in very nice grounds with the building half hidden by two voluminous trees on either side and our first impression was of a sinister place. The host was pleasant enough and the place was clean. We had to lug our suitcases up a long flight of stairs to our rooms. When I found out that there was no wifi, we had booked for 3 nights so I told him that we would stay one night but that we couldn't stay longer. He said that we had to pay for one night but that we should leave right away. On the positive side, the room was large and very clean. Quiet location and well located

We had a great time at agriturismo Santa Chiara! When we were standing for the closed entrance of the agriturismo, we could not imagine that this nice place was hidden behind it. We had a warm welcome by Francesca (one of the owners) who showed us all the beautifull spots in the garden and let us try some fruit. Later on we met Antonio, also very kind and helpfull. Our room was very big, clean and tastefully furnished, with a view at the beautifull gardens, where there were plenty of possibilities to relax. The breakfast and dinner were all very tasty (Salentine cuisine)and prepared with fresh products from the property itself and prepared with a lot of pleasure and love by Francesca! The surroundings, the nearness of Gallipoli and te sea and all the things I allready mentioned makes this place worth visiting!

we just came back from 6 nights spent in this charming agriturismo, it was so relaxant, we really felt like in our own house. Francesca and Antonio are really kind persons, antonio gave us good advices to travel and explained us all his labour with olive and orange trees, it was very interesting...francesca is a wonderfull cooker, the meals were various and typical, all home made, the breakfasts were so complete with sweet and salted things, a pleasure everything wich motivated us to wahe up ! the bedroom had a very nice view over the orange tree fields and was very spacious (2 communicating bedrooms with 2 bathrooms), the beds and pillows are confortable and everything is clean. the house is wonderfull and the garden smell the orange flowers ! you can lay down in a transat while your children play with the outside games or go to feed the chicken ! the agriturismo is very well situated, 5 mn from gallipoli and 20 from lecce and the beaches are really like the carribean sea ! I advice this place to anybody who research authenticity and a warm welcome ! ps : sorry for my english I'm french (living in torino italia)
