Travelling around the world I have experienced a phenomenon known as the Killer Bathroom. This Ibis hotel has entered the annals of the Killer Bathroom . The floor in the bathroom when wet is like a sheet of ice, there are no handrails or mats. Be very careful when leaving the shower, danger awaits . On a more positive note the hotel is central, excellent breakfast and the room was clean and tidy. Be careful having a shower.

The Hotel has three stars outside but I assume this relates to the sister Mercure hotel that is next door but part of the same building. The room we had was meant to be a twin but in all honesty it was more like a single room. Storage is very limited and the bathroom was very tired and dated looking. The Hotel bar shuts early and may not open at all so you may struggle for a nightcap if one takes your fancy. The good points of the hotel are the underground parking that they have (make sure you book it) and the breakfast was great, the lady who looks after the breakfasts is really helpful. Location wise the Hotel is a good central location and most places are a walk. Comparing it to the premier inn we stayed at in the UK en-route, the premier inn was miles better and 40 pounds cheaper per night.

Checked in a bright airy reception area by 2 gentlemen who had excellent English and were very pleasant to deal with. Provided me with a car parking ticket for the duration of the stay that allowed me to enter and exit the onsite car park throughout my stay at the standard daily parking rate. This is where the positives end. The lifts were tiny and dirty looking. They did not feel safe. There were exposed wires in the lift to the car park. We were in room 302 on the third floor which was down the end of a dark corridor with a badly stained carpet. The room could only be described as akin to a prison cell. The lighting was insufficient and the only natural light was through a very small window. Thankfully we brought our own pillows as the ones provided had the appearances of a pillow case stuffed with a few sheets. One side of the bed was so close to the wall you could only walk sideways beside it. The bed was on the soft side, but that's just a personal opinion. The only chair in the room was a hard uncomfortable office chair. The television despite having a decent number of channels had not a single English language channel. Sky news or CNN would have been ok. Breakfast was very disappointing. I accept it being a continental breakfast offering is going to be different from a cooked breakfast but this was incredibly poor. The dining room was completely lacking character. Food offerings were scarce and the one staff member that was occasionally in the dining room looked like she did not want to be there. The price we payed for our 2 night stay was way above what should be charged for such an establishment that really had the appearance of a basic hostel. That being said this property is located right in the centre of Caen with many excellent restaurants close by and within easy access to many attractions relating to the war.

Good: a garage is offered for a fair price which is very helpful because outside parking is nearly impossible. Very friendly staff and a working climate control. Not good: mattresses are sliding around and very small room. No possibility to store two suitcases.

Hotel is simple but has everything we needed, including air conditioning during the inclement heat of Normandy. We'll located in the center of the city with all dining and sightseeing options walking distance. Clean rooms and tasty breakfast. A garage with honest prices. The Ibis Caen works as a twin hotel of Mercure. If you need something else, just cross the hall. Staff as friendly and helpful.

We picked this hotel for its location, right in the centre of Caen, it is next door or rather joined into the Mercure which we have stayed at before but found their beds were too hard for us. Designed in a more trendy manner compared with the Mercure it ticked all the boxes. Handy location, couple of steps away from a great restaurant called Bistrome and not far from other bars and the old street with some great restaurants. The room is very basic but had decent storage for a couple of nights stay. And was very clean. The bed was very comfortable, proper king size, the mattress is like a very thick, about 3” topper pad but was really good for our bad backs so we had a decent nights sleep. There is air conditioning but also an opening window. Would suggest a room at the back as I would imagine it could get quite noisy at the front of the hotel. We did not hear anyone in adjacent rooms but in the mornings the doors tended to squeak rather badly and woke you up with people leaving their rooms, a bit of WD40 would cure that if Ibis owners read this. We found it helped to shut the bathroom door into the bedroom part (it went both ways) to add an extra sound barrier between the corridor and the bedroom so the second morning it was not that bad. The breakfast was brilliant and even though the one day we were late, they had everything replenished, lots of cheeses, hams, delicious crusty croissants, was really good. There is a bar for drinks, the staff are extremely friendly and helpful. They have underground parking which was very good although the spaces are a little on the tight side but at least you felt your car was secure (and just hoped no one dinged it. Getting in and out of theirs….there are some nice safe corner spots if you can get there early). Would definitely recommend.

We have stayed here on several occasions and not been disappointed. The hotel was comfortable (although the bottom sheet on the bed was too small!) and well siituaed for restaurants and places of interest.

We had stopped one night in this small hotel at low prices, excellent bedding, perfect location for a short break on our long road to Spain, the staff had been very good and the room was clean when we arrived, small bathroom. bath but practical, excellent value for money, breakfast correct and really cheap

This hotel is in central Caen and is in the same building as the Mercure - the hotels are linked by a ground-floor corridor. They also share an underground car park, 12 euros for 24 hours. Currently the Ibis reception is closed, and there are signs directing you to check in at the Mercure reception, which we did without any problems. We paid for the car parking and the taxe de sejour upfront, so it meant we could use the express check-out when we left. Back in the Ibis, our room was very compact but fine for a short stay. Room and bathroom were very clean and the bed was comfortable. Breakfast was in the Mercure and a full buffet was on offer, with hand sanitiser at the door, face masks worn when not actually sitting at a table, and 1 metre social distancing, although the social distancing didn't really happen. I was pleasantly surprised to see a full buffet given the current restrictions, good to see a bit of normality. The hotel is very well-located, near shops, cafes, restaurants and the castle & museums.
