Old hotel, in need of renovation, but clean. I slept well. The location is close to the old town in the city center. Breakfast is similar to other hotels in Italy, not many options but you can find something for yourself. You can enjoy breakfast with a nice view.

Located in a very central position in the historic center, we made it as our starting point for visiting the various attractions and monuments of the city. This hotel, equipped with a minibar and air conditioning, allowed us to read the newspapers and surf the web with our cell phone and laptop thanks to the free wifi connection present throughout the entire structure. The hotel was a real, pleasant surprise for us, who had checked the many booking sites and had seen many dated, old and almost unrealistic photos which did not give it good publicity and which made it look like a hangar of an aerodrome. Above all they didn't do justice to the spaces. In fact, the rooms, although very small, are comfortable, clean and tastefully furnished. There us no pictures of the bathrooms on the booking site. At the reception desk we were greeted with courtesy and professionalism. The location is strategic, close to the Cathedral, the historic and iconic shopping street, Via Pretoria, Piazza della Prefettura and the historic Teatro Stabile. From the windows of this very tall building, perhaps the tallest in the city itself, you can admire a wonderful view of the surrounding hills, of the entire city itself and of the valley below. The strong point of the hotel is a beautiful, elegant and very spacious lobby, with noteworthy furnishings and décor. The breakfast was rather satisfying and plentiful, the prices rather moderate. Good value for money. We recommend it.

A very nice hotel in the center of the city. The location is very convenient. The rooms are clean and comfortable. Breakfast is very good. Please note that the city is build on a hill and there are steps everywhere.

We selected this hotel for its location and facilities; on the plus side it is opposite a flight of steps that lead to the old city and as we discovered for ourselves if you cross the road and take upward sloping road to the left you can get into the old city with NO steps. The hotel has a parking garage 50 meters away that costs 12 Euros (this needs to be booked separately with the hotel as there is limited space) and street parking nearby is very limited as is Potenza in general. Views from the back of the hotel are spectacular this includes the rooms and the breakfast room. The rooms were clean and comfortable and of reasonable size for a city centre hotel. On the minus side the rooms were a little tired and in need of some renovation with marked furniture and the bathroom could have done with a refresh, also some of the advertised facilities were not available. We had planned to eat in the hotel as the reports were good, when we asked for the menu at around 17:00 hrs we were informed that the restaurant was closed. There was nothing up in reception or the room to indicate that although it was a Friday the restaurant was closed. No apology was offered for this. When we asked about eating a dinner a restaurant we where given the name of a restaurant in the city that we never found - we eventually found a pizzeria, then a small restaurant called Goblins. When we eventually returned we asked why the restaurant was closed and were informed that ‘the chef was on holiday’? We were going to have a drink in the bar but it in darkness. Not quite the last night of our trip as planned.

The Grande Albergo was perfect for a visit to Potenza. The staff were very attentive and helped us with everything we needed both in the hotel and around town. The beds were very comfortable and the air conditioning was a huge perk in the heat of the day and humidity at night. Vincenzo was extremely kind and made our stay incredibly comfortable.

The lobby and restaurant are beautiful. The room I had was utilitarian, but clean. The staff was friendly. My traveling companion unfortunately had to change her room three times for maintenance problems. Our other complaint is that the restaurant is not open on Sunday night. Dining options in Potenza on Sunday night are scarce.

We stayed in this hotel so our daughter could catch up with friends she had met on exchange and it was so close to all her friends, it was walking distance, we had 2 bathrooms and two bedrooms, 1 queen size bed 1 day bed which was big enough for our daughter. The breakfast every morning was a buffet style and it was really delicious, The Lobby was clean and tidy the staff at the front counter were always helpful, friendly and could speak English. We had a few dinners here and the meals were always hot, delicious and plentiful, as my daughter and I could not eat cheese they were more than accommodating to make us the meal we wanted without the cheese. We went to the bar for some quiet drinks and nibbles and the nibbles got bigger every day. Fantastic hotel most hospitable. Would surely recommend this hotel.

Spent one night here on our way to Matera. It was a decent hotel with the basic amenities. Check in was easy (and was made easier by the front desk clerk who spoke a bit of english). Parking was close to the hotel (about a 3 minute walk) and was only 12 euro. Easy to reach by car and centrally located to some great restaurants. We had one drink in the hotel bar, but they were short staffed so took nearly 20 minutes to get our order in. By the time we got our drinks we had to rush them to make our dinner reservation. The room was small but manageable. We were surprised by the two single beds. The hallways stink of smoke (i'm a non smoker) so that was unpleasant, but the rooms weren't too bad. Walls between rooms are very thin and we could hear our neighbours alarm going off several times the next morning. Breakfast the following morning was nice enough for a good start to the day - though the terrace wasn't open so we couldn't enjoy the view. If you don't have very high expectations and you need somewhere for a quick and cheap layover towards another destination, I would recommend this hotel.
