Well situated opposite the station, this hotel is about a ten minute walk from the very centre of the city, but along a busy shopping street so it is not an unpleasant walk. I have stayed here before, but feel if does not really deserve a four star rating. After a whole week in Northern Italy staying in independent hotels, the staff here are much more 'corporate' - that is to say polite but without any warmth or friendliness. Then the rooms are frankly a disappointment - late 70s chic? Handy for transport links, but for a stay of a few days in Bologna there are better hotels.

hotel is located directly in front of central train station, between them is a stop of airport express bus (6 euro PP per trip, departs every 11 minutes, need around 20 minutes).
in approximately 100 meters from hotel starts main shopping avenue (via dell'indipendenza) which leads directly to city center, around 1 km.
hotel itself is normal, rooms middle sized, upper floor is for smoking rooms (nice terrace in each room). breakfast was OK, eggs, ham, salami, cheese, cereals, milk, cakes, but no veggies at all :-(

I think the alt-title is "you get what you pay for." I thought this hotel would be ok, based on stays at other mercure hotels. It wasn't. Staff were helpful and friendly, The car park is around the corner on the rear side of the building. It is not Free, it is 20-euros/day. There is direct access to the hotel from the car park. Parking aside, it was inexpensive, 118-euros/night
This is an older building and it shows. The rooms are compact, not much spare space. The bed was hard and lumpy, and the pillows reminded me of why i generally carry one of my own. I think i've also been spoiled by Hilton hotels. There was only one chair in the room. The curtains did not fully close and would not blacken the room.
The bathroom worked for its intended purpose, but the bathing facility was a tub shower with the hand shower added as an afterthought. It was easy to bump into the shower temperature handle, and the hot water was hot enough to scald you if you didn't move quickly out of the path. The bath towel was a decent size, and there were hand towels that were more like a thin cotton dishtowel that was not terribly absorbent. I don't know what you were supposed to use for a wash cloth.
i should have looked harder and stayed elsewhere.

The location is very good, right opposite the train station. The night staff on reception were warm and cordial. Breakfast was ok but machine coffee seriously disappointing for Italy.

That's where the good things end. Air con in the hotel was weak, rooms are old with wallpaper in bad condition in the corners, a carpet of questionable cleanliness and the bathroom poor quality. The whole place is in desperate need of refurbishment. Furthermore, one has to leave one's key on reception upon entry/exit and they don't check identity when returning, so anyone could go to reception and ask for a key for a particular room.

Worse was that, I was bitten by bedbugs at this hotel. I wrote to the hotel to inform them of this, using the email on Accor's website. A week later I have not received a response. This means that there are other people staying in that room since then who are also getting bitten. The fact that they did not acknowledge the email is bad enough. Worse is that the clearly don't care and are happy for their guests to stay in infested rooms. This is the kind of thing that should really be picked up in daily cleaning, if the housekeeping staff check matresses and bedding properly. Of course, I had to buy new luggage, waste hours of my trip visiting laundromats to wash and dry clothes at 60 degrees plus, not to mention the stress of the whole experience. Not responding to a customer email is bad but also shows the hotel really does not care about cleanliness or hygiene.

We have stayed in this Mercure Hotel which is very reachable from the centre of Bologna and opposite the main railway station.
This Hotel is very nice and amazing helpful Staff.
Breakfast was very good and lot of tasty things to choose from.
I really recommend this Mercure Hotel to any one going to Bologna. As this hotel is within the Accor Hotels company, I will definitely continue to book my further bookings within the Accor Hotels as I already booked several times at Accor Hotels in many European destinations and was always satisfied with the service that the group of Accor Hotels offer.
Thanks for your amazing helpful Staff and looking forward to book again in another Hotel within the Accor Hotels company during my next holiday. 10/10..

We chose this location based on booking.com reviews, location, and parking nearby knowing Mercure brand. What a failure. The place is so below the brand standards. The lobby is the only thing meeting expectations. For you needing parking, call in the morning to reserve a spot. They will park your car for you. The entrance to parking is around the corner from the entrance to hotel. The rooms are in horrible condition. They haven’t been refreshed for probably 30 years. The king bed is good sized. There are very few outlets for charging. The night shade requires you to reach out window and pull it shut. Not safe. The shower water pressure is non-existent. There is no room in the shower to turn and the positioning of the shower head is in bad place. We were in room 405. I am attaching photos of two of the walls.

This hotel is a step back in time to 1975. I felt like I had noclipped into the backrooms... as you walk down the hallways, that feeling of a haunted liminal space is palatable.

It's a bizarre historic room, with floral wallpaper and buzzing aged lights combined with a giant modern TV. But the TV has it HDMI port disabled and has no streaming, so it may as well be from 1975 as well. Enjoy the one power socket in the whole room, you didn't want to charge more than one device, did you?

The walls are paper thin, strap yourself in to listen to your neighbour's every conversation.

Look, it was fine for one night, just don't plan to stay here for an extended time or at least prepare yourself for what hotels were 50 years ago. It's right next to the train station, so there's that.

The hotel is tired and quite frankly needs to be compleytely redone. The rooms are old fasioned and do not align with modern hotel standards, and I am not fussy. The bath was chipped, broken toilet seat, ugly old radio bedside table that seemed to come from the 70s, which did not work of course. The breakfast was basic and did not offer much choice. The rooms were clean but not particulary comfortable. There was a kettle but no cups, coffe tea or anything. The mini bar had two small bottlrs of water...thats all.
This is is a low budget hotel with a big price, between 115 and 215 euros per night for a single occupency room. For his price you can get a better much better hotel in the centre of town.
my best advice...go somewhere else.

The condition of their rooms is terrible!
1. The wall is stained and wall paper tearing off
2. the toilet bowl and toilet sink have black stain,
3. the seat of the toilet bowl is chipped,
4. there are small dents on the bathroom floor tiles
5. The furnitures are old and the room is dark (there are only 2 small lamps)
6. The water pressure of the shower is very weak, it even stopped while we were showering one time
7. There’s only one power socket in the room for us to use, making it very difficult to charge our electronics
I totally cannot believe this is classified as a 4 star hotel! At the most it is a 2 star. And it’s a shame that Mercure has such a bad hotel under their group.
I still gave them 2 stars only because of their good location and nice TV and mattress

This place is just pure horror, don't ever go there! I don't want to sound posh or be mean, but this place is just really really bad. I can see that standards in Italy are a little different and the place would be okay, if it weren't a Mercure 4 star hotel. If it was a 2 or 3 star hotel with no attachments to the ACCOR brand and a decent pricing I could have let that go. But when you pay for a 4 star hotel and a Mercure you should at least get some standard.
I also want to add that I am a gold member and that they refused to hand me over my welcome gift because apparently this is not available in Italy (I had it at the Mercure Artis in Rimini, great hotel by the way and the gift was generous!) but they just didn't care. The upgrade was also a big discussion, even though I saw online they had rooms still free. Afterwards I was a bit angry with myself, becasue it turned out the Privilege rooms were even worse, the smell made you throw up!
The staff itself was actually friendly and tried to make the best, and they already know that the rooms are in a very bad condition. Honestly, Mercure, either this hotel gets a total make-over or you need to throw them out of the programm. This is just insane. I would have never chosen this hotel if it weren't part of the ACCOR group. Because I expected it would be decent at least!

The rooms are just really really gross .. we made it through the night, but everything is old, it smells and you feel like in a horror movie. I don't know how people can give 4 or 5 points for that hotel. Again, if this would be a 2 or 3 star hotel that's what you expect, but a 4 star Mercure should have a higher standard than that. And it wasn't that cheap after all, 80 - 110 € per night is way toooooo high!

On the hotel webiste (link in Trip Advisor) scroll down towards the bottom and it says Crib is available upon request. When you book online, there should be a place to add your request. If not, I would suggest to email or call the hotel. Hope this helps!

There is the aerobus which drops off at Bologna Centrale train station. The hotel is literally opposite the train station. You see it as you get off the bus. All the airport buses stop at the Bologna Centrale train station by default.

We liked being able to take breakfast before leaving the hotel. As other reviewers have stated there is lots of choice outside. Turn right outside the front door. Avoid the Legerra Diner inside the covered area though! Awful as per my September review.
