The hotel is in the best location possible in Funchal. You are away from all the noisy bars and clubs but still in walking distance to them. I also personally feel the hotel is nearest the best restaurants on the island (within 15 mins walking). The cleaning is impeccable and is done daily. The house maids work very hard! I did have a rough start at the beginning where I was given a very old room which hadn't been renovated but after querying this I was given a much better room which had been renovated so I was very pleased. The hotel also makes good efforts in entertainment. I was here for Carnival day and they brought in some performers much to the delight of the guests. I didn't eat at the hotel but there are so many restaurants to choose from just outside. To mention a few: Indian Palace (best Indian), Pedras do Lago (best Chinese), O Dragoeiro (best Portuguese) and Roma (best Italian). The hotel offers a laundry service but it's very expensive. Definitely go to Judita's Laundrette at the nearby Monumental shopping mall where they'll wash, dry AND send your laundry back to your hotel room for 18 euros that same day! Incredible service! Finally some people in the reviews complain about the hotel being at the top of a hill. It's true, but this hill is only 100 yards, not that far. But to be honest if you are elderly and dislike hills Madiera may not be the best place to visit since every road here has very big hills. Overall I loved my stay.

Recently returned from a weeks stay at this hotel. It represented good value for what we paid. The hotel is rather dated but my room was wonderful. The view was amazing and the room was large and nice balcony. Plenty of storage. Ask for room 1006 as it's high up on the corner and fantastic view both day and evening as can see the centre of Funchal and the sea. No tea and coffee in rooms so take your own or plenty of shops around. There was nightly entertainment but hardly anyone went to watch which was a shame for the performers. We had breakfast included which had a good variety but the hot food wasn't actually hot. They do a buffet evening meal which we had the first evening but it was awful and certainly not worth 22 euros. My friend ate in the Terrace bar and said this was better but we weren't told about it on arrival. Some reception staff are very helpful but some can appear rude. Dated key entry for rooms. Fabulous views from rooftop terrace but sadly due to adverse weather it only opened the day we left. This hotel is on a steep hill so not recommended for people with mobility issues. There are lots of steps to climb.

Myself and husband along with our daughter, son-in-law and grandson aged 1.5 years had an amazing holiday. The experience from landing in Funchal, transfer to hotel and the most welcoming experience on arriving at Dorisol Mimosa was first class. Yes, some of the external paint work can do with some attention but that is the only issue. The welcome at the main reception was lovely with plenty of information. Rooms are spacious and bright, also cleaned daily. We were b&b which was plentiful and well stocked, kitchen assistant were very pleasant and helpful. The pool area was exceptional clean and relaxed with plenty of sunbed and a small deck area. The facilities such as indoor pool, gym and tennis court are well-maintained. The terrace bar and restaurant was outstanding,.this includes service and amazing food. The most spectacular views from the rooftop bar is breathtaking and we sat and relaxing every evening. Madeira is very hilly and not for folk who have difficulty walking but a stunning island that is self sufficient offering many local produce. Local restaurants are welcoming and give no hassle. The front seafront area is like paradise which we visited daily. Definitely will return to funchal.and Dorisol Mimosa

The hotel is ok, but it requires some renovation, quite old window frames with rust and in poor conditions. Nice location though, a decent pool with bar/restaurant service. The breakfast was a terrible experience. Extremely noisy area. Waitresses made a super loud noise with the dishes and cutleries. Something really beyond the reasonable. Two elevators and one in maintenance in the high season. We stayed 4 nights with only one elevator working. All in all, the worst was definitely the lack of respect for the guests with the loud noise of the dishes when replacing used and clean dishes.

Hotel Dorisol Mimosa is value for money. Our room was clean and comfortable with a good shower. It was freshened up daily with clean towels on request. We stayed bed and breakfast. The breakfast was buffet style with a mix of cooked and continental food, with freedom to eat as much you wished. Decent coffee too. The staff were friendly and almost all spoke English amongst other languages. The Terrace Bar is great for drinks and snacks at reasonable prices. Some notes of caution: This hotel is at the top of a steep hill (Funchal is a very "hilly" area). The outdoor pool is deep, the shallow end at 1.5m, and being under 5ft, it wasn't suitable for me to hang out in other than to swim or tread. The room walls and doors are very thin, so you hear EVERYTHING. Overall, a good hotel worth the price we paid.

This was a fairly basic hotel but was excellent value for money . Our room was clean and we had a large double bed with a great sea view. Breakfast was plentiful and good quality. The hotel was very well positioned with lots of bars and restaurants nearby. Funchal was a half hour walk away with buses running frequently

Hotel A steep hill to the hotel reception, checked in quite easily and quickly. Room wasn’t ready when we arrived but only had to wait 30 mins to get the key We had room 709, sea view with twin beds, kitchenette and bathroom. The room is ok, basic, dated but clean. Beds are comfy. Shower is hot and powerful. The cleaners cleaned everyday and changed the towels. We didn’t have a ceiling fan in our room and it got a bit warm at night but nothing to main about. The pool is kept tidy and clean. Friendly staff in the terrace bar. There is a sun rise terrace, great if you get up early enough to see the sun rise. A roof top terrace on level 11 is worth a look, views from up there are super. Food We had booked B&B, breakfast was ok. A busy dining room on some days for a small hotel. A choice of hot and cold breakfast with cakes and all sorts of salads and yogurts. All in all ok. Location As with all of Madeira, it is hilly! The hotel is on a hill. Funchal is hilly. To find a cafe, restaurant, bar you will walk up and down hills! Be prepared You’ll need comfy shoes if you like to go out walking. Weather We stayed in January, it was rainy when we got off the plane but the weather changed very quickly and was sunny by the time we got to our hotel. It was around 19/20 degrees most days with sun and a bit of cloud. Best to take a cardy and rain mac out through the day, weather can change. But we spent the 2 weeks in shorts and T-shirts and had a light cardy/ light jacket for when the sun went behind the clouds. This is a 3* star hotel, nothing more! It was a cheap get away for 2 weeks in the sun. If you want luxury then you have to pay for it! Do your research before you book.

We stayed here for 7nights in January - it was perfect! Excellent helpful efficient staff everyone was friendly and the room was clean and fresh. Breakfast is fine similar food every day but again the breakfast staff were really friendly and efficient. Facilities are great and the hotel is a 30’ walk to Funchal or a bus trip of 10 ´ lines 1,2&4 - all very easy. The hotel is near some excellent local restaurants -& was great value for money thanks to all the staff

Firstly, if you have any sort of walking difficulty, then this isn’t the hotel for you. From the main road there is a steep slope of about 50 metres up to the road on which the hotel stands. From that road to reception, there are around 155 steps to get there! There is a golf buggy if you need it but you have to find someone to take you up! The hotel itself is very dated and basic. Reception is tiny and the bedrooms still use a key for entry and really aren’t very secure. The decor is in desperate need of updating. The room is ok and a small kitchenette with a fridge, kettle, microwave and 2 cooking rings. There is a very small balcony with a limited sea view and the usual plastic chairs and table. Bathroom is fine, shower was good and generally clean and the cleaners did come in every day. I was only on bed and breakfast which is in 3 hourly shifts which is a good thing as it can get busy. Breakfast was about right for a 3* hotel and you have to remember to judge on what you paid for it. One thing to be aware of is that there is no air con so I would definitely not go there in the warmer months, but I was there in December so it wasn’t an issue. You do have a ceiling fan but that wasn’t exactly quiet! Overall a good week away from the freezing cold winter and was value for money for what I actually paid as a last minute decision. Now that I know more about the area, there are better ones for not much more money without the steep incline or the 40 minute walk into Funchal.

We stayed for 4 nights. The hotel is a little tired but ok. Nice walk in shower. Kitchenette. Ceiling fan. Indoor heated pool. Various more amenities. Food at breakfast was ok, hot food was like warm! Overall it was a value stay in the centre of the lido area. I would stay again.
