Welcome to the Grand Hotel Santa Domitilla, one of the most prestigious hotels on the island of Ponza and the whole Mediterranean coastline. Our elegant and refined common areas have a cool Mediterranean décor and our splendid gardens with their abundance of Mediterranean and exotic plants are surrounded by typical Ponza-style terraces. Two seawater swimming pools are hidden behind a mass of purple bougainvillea, and our fabulous Wellbeing Course winds between lemon trees and fox grapes to the picturesque Roman Grottos with their different temperatures (from 19 to 37°C), numerous hydromassage jets, and the exquisite Arabic style and chromo-therapeutic lighting of the Turkish Bath. Then there is the prestigious restaurant and wine bar, “Il Melograno”, that offers gastronomic delights in wisteria draped bowers.

The hotel itself is beautiful. Excellent location. Stunning restaurant. Wonderful pool and bar area but I have never experienced reception staff so rude in my life. They tried to tell us we couldn’t book a table at the restaurant for about 3 nights in a row even though there were multiple tables free. It was like they were playing a game with foreign tourists. When we finally got to go to the restaurant it was wonderful and so were the staff it was just a couple of really rude ladies on reception. It left a really sour taste. I get they want to keep their island for locals and don’t want to be over run like the Amalfi coast but some basic manners would not go astray especially when they are more than happy to take your money.

We had a wonderful stay! The room was great and the pools are amazing! We wish we could have stayed longer, but were trying to fit as much if Italy as we could in one week! I hope to be back to stay longer! Ponza as a whole speaks primarily Italian. I knew this going in. I was able to get by on the Italian I’ve learned and a translator. I didn’t find that this was a problem here or anywhere else in Ponza but I’m writing this so you know what to expect.

Ponza is an absolutely stunning island and you need at least four days to get around and check out all the beautiful coves. This hotel could be great but is let down by some of the reception staff. We had sent several emails regarding a transfer from the port to the hotel and got no replies so when we arrived there was no one to pick us up. A very nice man helped us with our luggage and organised a taxi for us. On arrival at the hotel there was not apology just excuses. All they had to do was say sorry but they couldn't do that. The manager of the hotel appeared to be very friendly to the Italian guests, but only greeted us on our last day. When we had a discussion on the pool of the spa area. Apparently to sit on a lounge chair in this area you have to book the chair and you can only have it for two hours. All this is fine and I completely understand the reasons in the busy time, but it should be explained to guests on check in not when you go to sit down. The hotel and the grounds are really nice and the pool area is great. The cleaning staff and the staff in the breakfast room were amazing and nothing was too much trouble. The rooms are nice but basic, but ours had a beautiful view. I realise that most people we met in Ponza were Italian and I think this hotel caters more for these guests. Our best experience was having dinner at Gennarino a Mare. We enjoyed the food so much we ate their twice. The setting was stunning, great service and the food was outstanding.

My husband and I stayed in Ponza for five nights. It was wonderful and the staff, especially Hugo, were very kind and helpful. They gave us great recommendations and helped to book a boat to explore the island and neighboring islands. Breakfast was great each morning as was the hotel restaurant. The rooms are great and we'll kept. Pool and steam room was also a treat. The hotel was close to everything and very well kept. Highly recommended!

Stayed here for 3 nights after whirlwind tour of Rome, Florence & Venice with blackgirltravel.com (plug). Pleasantly surprised by the island of Ponza. We arrived at this covered driveway and walked up to the courtyard of the hotel. We had an awesome room with a balcony view of courtyard. Turned a/c off and let the fan and breeze do their thing. Lots of vintage touches in rooms and bathrooms and comfortable beds. The restaurant had amazing food and tiramisu (had it twice). The hotel also has a cave-like sauna with jets. The staff was very accommodating, especially with late night requests.

I found Ponza after an Italian friend recommended it - forget Amalfi coast Ponza is where the locals head. this resort is truly lovely, rooms are spacious and tastefully decorated, the grounds are extensive and lush. the food in the out door restaurant under shade was superb - and affordable. the staff - of course it is they that make a stay like this memorable - thank you to all for making us feel at home. Phillipa in the restaurant each morning was a delight. the girls on front desk with big smiles, the lovely lady who cleaned the room were all so helpful. special thanks goes to Hugo - the hardest working General Manager I have ever seen. you all made this the most special and memorable holiday of my life. Gracias! (hope I got that right?) Ciao

Hotel reception in line with 4 stars rating. Rooms 2 stars small and thin walled noisy and no privacy. Bar on pool excellent well above the rating of the hotel and competent and friendly staff. Gennarino value them more! A real gem. Restaurant poor little leadership from the Metre and poor chef: I was served roasted patatoes with fish flavours Chef did not take responsibility and blamed a young assistent Giovanni Mercurio this is very poor you should reflect on the principles of chefs : keep kitchen clean taste the food and take responsibility. Disappointed ! Hope this helps.

The Santa Domitilla is a prestigious oasis of pleasure and wellness in the historic center of the beautiful island of Ponza, close to the main street and not far from the most beautiful bays. Provided with all the comforts, the Grand Hotel will amaze you with its tranquility, the care of its rooms and the beauty of the wellness path in its “Roman caves” inspired heated pools and caldarium for the Turkish bath. The courtesy of the staff will make you feel cuddled and you will fall in love with the cuisine of its restaurant “Melograno”, rich in traditional Mediterranean dishes based on fresh fish. The continental breakfast is super and you can choose from a wide selection of sweet and savory products, many of which are made directly by the chef, fresh fruits. The cleaning and care of the locations are impeccable. The hotel also offers to its customers a shuttle service to the port, informations/reservations of island excursions, assistance for renting boats. Definitely the best place to enjoy the relaxed atmosphere of the island. Marzio from Rome.

We stayed at this hotel in July 2018. The room booked (a ‘suite’) was almost a one bedroom instead, with a small queen bed and a very small toilet. We had a balcony ‘overlooking’ a wall!!! The room was not very clean and there was no elevator and no porter to help us out with our luggage’s. Swimming pool was ok but too small for the number of guests. Breakfast was terrible.

Something has changed at the great hotel. I was there with two friends. Unfortunately left the safety deposit box in my room open. Well guess what, a sealed envelope with 600 euros disappeared. I told the management and all I got was that we have had the staff working the hotel for a long time and they always turn things in, no amends. Yes, I acknowledge my faults. Further, the hotel shop was closed. We couldn’t get the front desk to tell us what time it would open. The receptionist said we should give her the items we wanted to buy and then she would tell us the price. We opted not to go they rout because we didn’t know what the price was. At the port where we went to rent a boat with sailor to tour the island, booked through Gennarino al marenxe , also property of San Domitilla, the would at the reception area, where we were supposed to pay for the boat rental, completely ignored us. We had to beg her to take our money. She was too busy on the phone and had invoices she was processing which she considered more important than taking our cash. We finally were able to pay the for the two days, on the second day. We believe that people are taking advantage of the fact that the owner has had some health complications. I am writing this in hopes that something is done to ensure that the standard of excellence that use to be present will continue. In the meantime, I nurse my wounds about have “lost” 600 euros that I placed on the safety deposit box. Please check the safe before you leave the room to make sure it is locked.
