Stayed here for a few nights for work during the 57th Karlovy Vary Film Festival. I liked this hotel although it was pretty hard to judge it properly as the entire place was PACKED due to the film festival with all areas and many floors of the hotel being used by companies and displays. It is a bit of an oddity in Karlovy Vary as it's a modern 15 floor tower / conference centre in a town full of Czech old world buildings (I can only imagine the uproar when they planned it). So it's a hotel that also has Spa / Medical Treatment / Swimming pool, thermal pool / pool party / conference centre and restaurants. It seems to be modern by local standards - I was in a superior room with a balcony on the 13th floor with great views. The room had all the mod cons available in most decent hotels, good wi-fi, USB Power outlets, nice firm bed, good regular housekeeping. One thing I noticed was that the beds didn't have a separate sheet, only a fitted sheet and then a throw over dooner - no big deal, just different. Downstairs restaurant doing breakfast / lunch / dinner with a lot of options and really good wait staff. There's a large separate building (accessed by hill climbing elevator) that has an outdoor heated pool, thermal pool, saunas, change facilities - there was also a Pool Party with DJ, bar etc on the weekend days / nights (I assume that's just in summer or just during the film festival). I believe you get complimentary access to the pools /saunas for a couple of hours every day of your stay - I used it every morning for laps, it was great. In the pool complex there's also a decent restaurant with amazing views. As I said, the place was packed and the staff all seemed to handle it well. Everything you could want outside the hotel is a short walk away and there's SO many restaurants / bars etc to choose from. Karlovy Vary wasn't on my list of places to visit, but now that I've been there I'd consider going back.

Hotel situated right in the city center, one cannot really miss it. It is at around 20min walk from Karlovy Vary bus terminal, easy reachable on foot as for many of the other accommodations in the city. From the outside, the Hotel does not stand put for its beauty. Architecture seems old, a tall concrete block which clashed with the nice architecture of the city. Reception personnel kind and professional, fluently speaking in English and cordial. The room assigned was located at the sixth floor with balcon. The interior was essential and clean, although might not have been very new (considering also the overall renovation works ongoing in the hotel). The bathroom lacked a proper shower (only bathtub) which however did what it was supposed to so. Beds a bit too harsh for personal teste. The small balcony provided a wonderful scenery of the city and its surroundings wood's, which transimmeted a peaceful sensation. This was definitely the perk of the room. In terms of services. Underground pool and saunas (Finnish and Steam) for guests of the Hotel was satisfactory, open most of the day (1PM to 9PM weekdays and earlier during the weekend). Never crowded and a relaxing way to spend a few hours. In addition to the private pool and small saunas, the Hotel provides a 3h access to Saunia which is located on the hill right above the hotel, and is accessible via elevator from the 1st floor. Outside pool very charming, and sauna words worth visiting. Final note restaurant, which provided a good enough variety of choices, for breakfast as well. Overall nice Hotel and nice services.

I certainlly don’t recomend this hotel. We came here 1 night from Prague especially for the Spa. 1 day before arrival they answerd our e-mail telling that the Spa center is closed, available only the external thermal pool (3 hours only access allowed) but outside were 2 grd and we were with a small child..for tbem this wasn’t important to annouce as they say 90% of their guests come for the thermal pool ; we requested a late check out for next day in order to stay in the morning at the indoor pool and we were assured that this will be available…surprise, the Spa was opening at 13:00 on Friday so we paid for the late check out for nothing, to stay in room as outside was raining. In the sauna world all the Saunas are for adults without clothes. In room was cold, furniture very old. They provided an extra bed foldable that couldn’t be used by anyone, even by a child. They have no children robes. Breakfast was ok, but for a hotel where you come to take a health cure was provided too much unhealthy food. All around are renovation works.

The outdoor pools were nice, especially the smaller, hot one. The saunas were in a maze, in fact the whole place is a maze. There were no water fountains or taps anywhere, even near the saunas which I thought was shocking and dangerous. Getting into the place from the hotel reception was very confusing. The lift had no signs on the buttons. We were not giving any instructions how to use the lockers or where to change and were not told you HAD to strip naked for the saunas. The best part for us was the hot outdoor pool and as we went at night, the views over the town were beautiful.

We came to Karlovy Vary from Prague, for one day to relax at one of the Spa retreats. We decided to arrive to the Thermal spa facilities. It was a delightful day! The place looks very modern and new. They have one outdoor pool, with the most amazing fairytale view of the town. 8 dry saunas, many wet saunas, a restaurant (with everything you wish for in very cheap prices) and a verity of massages. The staff is friendly and very skilled. The entranced is for 3 hours or for a whole day. Please note that once you enter the pool area, you cannot leave for the massage (it is in a separate building), so book the time slot for your treatments according to this rule. Also, book in advance before arriving if you wish to do any treatments. We came in September (not a very touristic time) and even then there wasn’t almost any time slots left. Will definitely come back if will be around. Recommend!

The problem with the hotel have started even before my arrival. A week before the trip I've sent a mail about safe boxes in the room. That week has passed and two weeks of my stay- and still no reply. When we've arrived I've asked the receptoion about stationary PC with net, as advertised on their site. Was pointed at a password-locked piece of... 386, with no access given. I've asked for an internet-cafe or something and was told that there's no such thing in Karlovy Vary. The next day I've found the town library across the street- with everything I needed, no thanks to the receptionist. My single room had a cojoined family room-through a paper-thin side door. First it was a family with children- and I could hear the father tell them bedtime stories. The kids were quite playful. When I've complained at the lobby about the noise, I was asked "do you want me to call security on that little kid?" No, but you can at least move me or offer a compensation. A couple of days later that family checked out- and my new neigbours were an amorous couple with a liking for board games. Yes, I could hear them ahem... spousal activity, and the sound of dice on wooden game board. We were given a card with the wrong meal times- and actually missed dinner because of it- the staff was merciful enough to offer us leftovers if we promise to hurry. P.S. Some dishes run out during the first meal hour- so be early or stick to leftovers. The thermal pool is accessable for 3 hours for the whole stay- whether you stay 3 days or 2 weeks. 3 hours in one trip, one time. Not daily, no "an hour today, an hour tomorrow". The spa treatment floors are definately of Soviet design- uncovered cement as a form of decoration. However, the wellness staff is quite skilled. I was not notified that blood test were included and PAID FOR in our package. The room itself is not pet or child safe- the no-balcony room still has a huge door for a window, with only a thin strip of metal on adult waste level. Also, the window is see through both ways- so anyone at the street on at the pool could have a look at me had I been less carefull where in my room I change clothes. But the worst part is that we've almost missed the flight because the receptionist because he was notified a day earlier that our transfer was moved an hour earlier- but he didn't bother to notify us. More than that, he told the driver that we checked out and were no longer of his concern. Luckily the transfter coordinator called me, and was quite stressed. Cleaning... haha. I drew a smiley in the dust on the table in my room. And there was an empty medication pack under my bed. I left it there out of curiocity, and it was removed on day 10 of my stay. No choice of pillows, one thin pillow, one thin blanket, air condition hard to control with no instructions. Safe with no instructions. From 22:00 to 06:00 entrance only through the parking, not the front door. If it wasn't a prepaid package, I'd get the hell out of there. All in all- it don't justify the prices and is quite noisy. Stay away at all costs.

Response from Marketa Stradalova, Owner at Spa Hotel Thermal
Responded Jun 16, 2022
Dear guest, We appreciate your detailed review and the time you put into writing this review. We are sorry to hear that your stay at Hotel Thermal did not meet your expectations. Feedback from our guests allows us to improve our service. We would like to comment on at least a few points. Guests will receive 3 hours in the outdoor pool for each overnight stay as a bonus since the pool opened. The Thermal Hotel is built in the Brutalist style, and the interior features match this, such as the aforementioned concrete wall, incidentally an element that has made a big comeback in recent years. As far as balcony door safety is concerned, they meet all standards. Glass serves as a barrier to ensure the best possible view of the surrounding greenery. At the same time, curtains can be used if guests require privacy. The hotel room is equipped with air conditioning and safe instructions in four languages. Thank you again for your feedback and we would be delighted to welcome you again. Hotel Thermal Team

I have traveled all over the world... so to call this hotel a 4* is an absolute joke. The restaurant looks like a cheap cafeteria (the hole in wall cafes in Kathmandu had more charm). The buffet food is overcooked or cold. Couldn't book any Spa treatments during my 4 night stays, because they were booked... what is then the purpose of me even coming here? The Wellness area looks like a sterilized hospital. Nothing like I would expect in a 4star hotel. I didn't even want to give this a one star rating. Super disappointed. Thanks for ruining my New Years Eve stay
