I wasn't sure where to stay in Prague but U Stare Pani was eventually an amazing choice. The room was very spacious and had AC, a beautiful view over a courtyard with classic orange roofs, and was always quiet whatever the noise from the street side.

The buffet breakfast was simple yet diverse, and I especially liked the professional-grade coffee machine. Staff was very servicable and got my clothes to the laundry once (expect around 8 euros for a full bag).

I didn't recall Prague being such a small city but almost every attraction was nearby. The hotel is basically located in the heart of the old town. There is even a bicycle rental shop just under the arch you can see when stepping outside.

The restaurant was only open to group reservations, but some amazing dining places like Café Louvre (my favorite restaurant), Lehka Hlava (rare vegan) and La crème de la crème (most popular ice-cream shop?) were only 5 minutes on foot.

I will definitely stay there again next time, since it wasn't more expensive than other places while I'm sure I can have relaxing nights thanks to the quietness (ask for a courtyard room if it matters for you) and the AC.

We stayed 3 nights at U Stare Pani, it was so convenient, within walking distance from the Old Town Plaza and the famous Charles Bridge. We had a room that overlooked the street, it was very busy all the time and very noisy, but we didnt mind, the location was perfect. The staff was very helpful and nice. The breakfast was always delicious! And the price was affordable, I would definitely recommend this place.

My boyfriend and I stayed at U Stare Pani Dec. - Jan. 2004 and had a wonderful stay! The hotel is charming and located on a quiet, beautiful cobblestoned road in the heart of Prague. Our room was large, very clean, and had all the amenities we needed. The bathroom was new and there was never a lack of hot water or water pressure. We had French doors onto a small balcony overlooking the typical narrow Prague street, which is so European and charming! Breakfast was served daily and always fresh and delicious! The staff was very attentive and polite and always helpful, whether it was with carrying our bags to our room or calling a taxi for us. They spoke English and were always smiling. Next time I return to Prague, I am definitely staying at U Stare Pani!

We just returned form the trip to Prague. It is a marvelous city with many sights to see and attractions to visit. We will go there again and again, but we will never stay at Hotel U Stare Pani again.
We decided to stay there because of location. We wanted to be in the center of old town within a walking distance of every major attraction. Location was very good indeed. It is next to Old Town Square, we walked to Prague Castle, to Charles Bridge, to Josefov, to Wenceslas Square. Metro is 3 minutes away; tram is 4 minutes away, all great restaurants and theaters are within a short walking distance from this hotel.
However, with location ends everything good we can say about this hotel. The rest is terrible. For 120 Euro a night in October (which supposedly a great discount rate and regular price is 144 Euro), it was the worst hotel and the worst service we ever had on 4 continents.
All you can do when you stay in this hotel is walk and sightsee around Prague for 20 hours a day, because you have to force yourself to go into that room. You have to exhaust yourself before you can lie in that bed. Hotel U Stare Pani is rated 3 stars. In Chicago, the worst and seediest motel that charges by the hour would provide better service and accommodations than that in 3 stars hotel in Prague. There is no elevator, rooms are tiny, linens are changed once a week, they do not vacuum or wash floors if you stay for less than a week, there is no central air, no fan, no blow dryer, no iron. There is a small TV in the room with no remote control and broken buttons so you cannot watch it anyway, there is no radio, no clock, no safety box in the room. Beds are a separate story - there are 2 twin size beds in a double room, there is no mattress, you sleep on a wooden platform with padding 3 inches thick, and this padding is so lumpy and curvy that you feel like you are lying in a sinking hole. Breakfast that is included in the price is bad, mostly bread and preserves, no fruits no vegetables no juice. We made reservations for 5 nights, after the first night we wanted to move to another hotel, but they told us that we have to pay for 5 night anyway becasue that is the reservation we have made, and they had our credit card number, so we were forced to stay. Next time we will stay at Radisson, Marriott, or Best Western that are near by. No more local hotels for us.

What can I say, the location of this hotel is without a doubt excellent, you are within easy reach of the Charles Bridge and the Astronomical Clock, but it takes more than a great location to make a great hotel.

We booked a deluxe suite, at first glance we were very impressed with the size of the room, which was a good size, with separate bedroom, lounge rooms, shower room and WC. The furnishings were very basic, the double bed was actually 2 single beds pushed together, each with its own bedding. The sofa was very narrow, and uncomfortable to sit on - and as a couple on a romantic long weekend break, not conducive with snuggling. The shower room was impossible not to drench as the glass partition only shields half the open side of the shower, meaning the only floor space (which also happens to be in front of the sink) quickly turns in to a foot bath. The floor mats/towels provided are sadly just too thick to put on the floor and be able to open the door.

All of these things of course are to most people, first world problems, and things we can live with, but there were a few issues we simply couldn't ignore. The weather during our stay was particularly warm, which was lovely outside, but not so lovely inside our room, which got hot and stuffy very quickly. We tried in vain to operate the aircon, only to be told by reception, that management didn't permit use of the aircon as it was considered too early in the year for it to be on. Now I could just about understand if they were heating or cooling the whole premises, but when your room comes with its own wall mounted aircon unit and a remote, you do expect to be able to use it! Why not just open then windows, I hear you say, well during the day time this was fine, albeit a little noisy, but at night, OMG I've never heard anything like it. If I could upload any of the 5 sound clips I recorded on my mobile from our beds, you wouldn't go near this place if it was the last place in Prague. What in the day was a relatively quiet side street, with only a few people passing through on foot or by car, at night becomes an overwhelming cacophony, well trodden by the local pub tours! What wasn't made clear anywhere, (trust me I went back and double, triple checked) is that the hotel faces a popular English pub, or that this is a pub crawl thoroughfare frequented at weekends by loud, raucus revellers. I can't even convey how loud the noise was, thanks in part to the amazing acoustics the street provides. Even with the windows closed the noise was louder than what I would consider acceptable, but on a hot stuffy day/weekend, with no aircon (as we weren't allowed to use it), we had no alternative but to try to sleep with the windows open. We were quickly woken up several times during the night, 1, 2 and 3am, by passing party goers. This completely ruined our stay.

To make matters worse, after a poor night's sleep, you look forward to starting your day out with a good breakfast. Let me be clear, you will not find a good breakfast here. The selection was pitiful, a beyond sad selection of 2-3 cheeses and sliced meat, some limp salad, fried eggs and fat soaked streaky bacon. Not the best start to the day.

All in all, we weren't impressed with the U Stare, and will never stay here again or recommend it to anyone we know going to Prague. I am not one to complain behind people's backs, when we checked out I told the lady at the front desk about our stay, and she seemed completely uninterested and basically shrugged at us. With regards to the noise we were told "well someone has to stay those [front facing] rooms!" And with regards to the heat/stuffiness in the room, and us not being allowed to use the aircon, her response was tantamount to an "oh well". There was no offer of an apology, no sympathetic ear, let alone any offer of a discount, not even a fiver!

If you decide against better judgement to stay here, for your own sake, make sure you book a rear facing room. I can't say with any certainty that this will be quieter, but it certainly can't be louder!

Absolutely loved this hotel. The hotel is very central of the old town square, surrounded by many restaurants (you will never go hungry here). The biggest surprise was my room very large and spacious and breakfast in the morning was more than adequate for a small hotel. On arriving you are greeted by Wendy. She is such a lovely warm friendly person, very good with her english and always extremely helpful. I would definitely recommend this hotel and hope to return myself one day.

I can highly recommend this hotel.
Location is perfect (in the very center of old Prague), rooms are comfortable, stuff is helpful.
You can enjoy Jazz nights in the basement of the hotel, it's short walk to many attractions, sites and restaurants.
Good value.

Restaurant at the hotel U Stare Pani is in a brilliant location. The astronomical clock in the main square is literally 2 minutes away. The food was excellent, tasty, special for Prague. The restaurant staff were very friendly and helpful.
At night, all guests get a treat as they get to watch a live jazz performance in the basement! U Stare Pani is one of the more famous jazz clubs in Prague too so it makes it even more special. Next time I would like to be a guest also at the Hotel U Stare Pani.

Location is perfect, very close to everything. The staff is the best one can imagine, they are always ready to help. Orange juice for lacking breakfast could be less diluted. In our room, shower was very poor, and air conditioning was too weak. TV required repairing and got it after some days only.

The staff was very polite and helpful, the room was quiet, clean and comfy, the bed was amazingly comfortable and of course the location is price less. On the negative side, our room had an angled ceiling and it was a bit annoying when getting in or out of bed.
Overall - great hotel which gives great value for the money you pay.
