We had a lovely stay in our sea view room: the bed was super comfortable and the view from our window was beautiful. I liked that the windows opened, we had a tea kettle, and the breakfast was plentiful. The location was good, walking distance to a beach and pub nearby and other amenities were a vigorous walk away in Gairloch.

The food was very nice if you eat the toast and Nutella. The reception guy was very very defensive about asking if the room was noisy. Yes it is. Bang goes the front door, bang. Everyone's conversation on entry noisy. The bed was comfy if you have a bunk bed otherwise the smallest double bed in the world. Only come here if everywhere else is full. And you'll pay too much for unwelcoming, dirty, tired, and weird surrounds. Breakfast is not good. Random pre order system that doesn't yield anything, it's a buffet of all the stuff anyway with no table service! Avoid unless you have nowhere else left to book

We turned up at this place yesterday after a week of glamping and just want to freshen up and have a decent sleep! So, first step was a shower, but there wasn't any hot water. Wanted a short nap but the curtains didn't fully cover the door and let all the light in. So we spoke to the manager as £152.50 did not warrant that. But we couldn't help find further faults. The owner decided we should pay the full amount and he would fix the curtain issue but we were unable to have hot water during the day due to the laundry services doing washes. We seleceted a double bed, but had two singles pushed together with a gap between and single duvets, not what we wanted! We took photos of the rest of the faults. Absolutely not worth the money when there's much cheaper, and better quality else where.

The hotel is conveniently situated near the NC500 route. The staff were friendly, and check-in was easy as was check out the next morning. The location was up a small hill within an easy walk to have dinner at The Old Inn and walk around harbor. Reservations are a must this time of year for the evening meal, and the hotel notified us in advance with that recommendation. The location was very quiet and peaceful. The lodge seems a bit older with dated decor, older looking bedding, and a too firm mattress, which doesn't suit me as a side sleeper. Breakfast was a serve yourself and a bit chaotic in the small space with multiple items needing to get refilled simultaneously, and by the nature of that style of service the hot food was only warm, though the staff was trying hard to keep the breakfast bar stocked.

Overall a disappointing stay. It offered everything that we needed but at a very low quality! The hotel is extremely dated. The breakfast was completely disorganised and we were quite shocked to pick up mouldy bread rolls. The lady dealt with it in the best way she could, but it was an awkward moment! Not one to be expected when you’re paying a £140 a night!

Stayed for 1 night on our NC500 trip staff were good but the hotel was very tired and dated and the room was very small with quite a few issues curtains were 6 inches off the windowsill so let in far to much light the bathroom door was a sliding one and also too small for the opening so you couldn’t shut it properly and definitely couldn’t lock it luckily we’re married and tv didn’t work properly breakfast was ok

Family of 4 stayed for 1 night in one of their family rooms in annex. Room is good size and has small patio area. Furniture is mismatched and bedding is mismatched and pillows flat. Towels were so worn looking and some were faded and stained. Bathroom is large and clean but worn with damp in places. Breakfast was preordered and mainly overdone. Dining area could be spectacular if updated from 80's and garden maintained there would be lovely views. Generally place looked run down and in need of repair

Stayed here for one night on a coach tour. I really wish I could be a bit more positive about the place but I can't...it has the opportunity to be a really nice hotel but its just been left to slowly sink into decay. Overlooking the fact the boiler had supposedly just packed in (which I later found out it had happensed a few days before) the place is stuck back in the early 90's faded glory....has a weird fusty and fuel oil smell about the place , strangely nostalgic as made me think of my grannies old house when I was a nipper. The back car park area has abandoned Eastern European cars and other junk discarded about lending to the atmosphere of decay. My room was very cold....despite it not being that cold outside that night and obviously no heating or hot water or shower due to aforementioned boiler issue. It also was very noisy as the window didn't close properly (helping to keep the room cold!) and the soundproofing from the room next door was non existent. Breakfast was a shambles...buffet style breakfast which I hate...food was deep fat fried and luke warm and cheap and nasty cash and carry stuff.....no local produce here! The tea was disgusting served in a big urn type device it was stewed beyond belief and also luke warm. Sadly a great location but not a great hotel and far too expensive for what they are offering. I would give this one a miss.....

This hotel sits high up from the road through Charlestown, being a 5 minute walk from their sister hotel and the harbour and about 35 minutes walk into Strath Bay where there more facilities, more accommodation and the excellent Myrtle Bank Hotel. We had booked a room with a loch view and although the loch was not immediately in front of us the view was a very pleasant one. The room itself was rather tired with mismatched bedding, curtains, carpet, furniture and rather dull brown towels which did not look fresh. While not dirty, other than the bathroom door which could have done with a wipe, its overall look was a bit grubby. However, the bed was comfy, the heated towel rail was efficient and the shower worked well and was easy to use. The breakfast room is light and airy and the breakfast was good - a mixture of self service and hot food cooked to order. As the GHL does not serve dinner, we had booked 3 evening meals at the sister hotel, The Flowerdale Inn, near the harbour. In the event, we only ate there the first night as the service and menu choice were both awful (See my separate review). On a very positive note, the staff at the GHL were all very friendly and helpful and the laundry service was quick and excellent value. As in many places staffing appeared to be a difficulty and we got the impression that they were a little relieved when we asked for our room not to be serviced. That said, they were anxious that we had what we needed, Overall the hotel is in need of some tlc - a lick of paint, updated furnishing and not least the replacement of the 'C' from the outside Reception sign, as this does not give a great initial impression. Were it possible I would have given 3.5* as the staff were lovely.
