If I could score this hotel zero I would have, visited the hotel mid October for 2 nights, when we arrived mid afternoon we could hardly get parked in the hotel “car park “, cars abandoned everywhere. Checking in was smooth enough, room was very dated, on the second floor looking out to the co-op car park. We went for a walk before dinner, where on the beach I fell, and turned out I had broken my ankle and leg, got discharged to the local hospital that night in a cast and crutches, planning to make the 5 hour journey home the next day, when we got back to the hotel we discovered there wasn’t a lift in the hotel and as I was non weight bearing on my broken leg and ankle it was impossible for me to get up the stairs to the second floor, the elderly man who was on reception that night was very rude and unhelpful, he says there was no available rooms on the ground floor, which I can accept but his non empathetic attitude was beyond belief, I asked if they had a disabled toilet I could use, and he said in quiet a snappy reply, “there’s nothing I can do”,I’m sure he thought I was talking about a room, I said “you didn’t hear me, I need the loo”, very rude! .Needless to say we had to leave at 1am that morning. The only reason this hotel is busy is not for the looks or above and beyond experience of Skye but because there’s not much competition. Avoid if possible!!!

A very tired and jaded hotel. Where the best thing about it was the external view for some of the rooms. One of the rooms had mould growing up the walls. Very small rooms, been to bigger rooms in Japan, with a small bed. Paper thin walls and you can hear other guests walking down the corridor and in other rooms. The room size was 12 foot by 10 foot and the bed was so close to the wall you couldn't walk round it. We booked this as it was the only place available at the time. We booked 2 nights but couldn't leave Outer Hebrides because of the weather. Advised the hotel but still charged for 2 nights. The policy was even if you are unable to get here you still pay. I would check the policy for refunds etc before booking. Didn't stay or eat but still paid. Used by coach party's so they have steady stream of guests who are out all day. Best thing about it is the petrol station and CO-OP next door. This picture is not representative of the room we had. Food was adequate and the breakfast okay. Some of the staff were a bit surly and not convivial.

This was my first trip to Skye & I would happily stay here again. I was very worried from previous reviews but do not understand what there is to complain about. We stayed two nights in early October 2023. I had a sea view room & my parents were just along the corridor with a side view. Both rooms were spacious with plenty of hanging & storage space. Lovely bathrooms with walk in showers were an added bonus. Our stay had a dinner allowance on the first night & we switched from a restaurant booking due to two large coach parties arriving at the same time to bar meals. The food was good & plentiful and the bar staff were both very friendly. We ate in the bar again on our second night and were pleased again. The breakfast also had a good selection of both hot and cold options and all staff were friendly there as well and the views from the breakfast room are stunning. Parking is not great but we always got a space and a lift would be a great addition but apart from that we could not fault this hotel or its staff for a three star hotel. Keep up the good work & we hope to return soon.

Room Tip: Parking is limited but I was told that the 24 hour COOP next door can be used as an alternative

The Dunollie hotel is open of the most unwelcoming places I have possibly stayed in in 79 years. After booking in we,(my wife and i) were left to carry out suitcases up a couple of flights of stairs. The room was cold with a heating system that had a mind of its own, generally, cold! The room has a wardrobe but no cupboards for underwear etc,you keep them in your suitcase. The shower was fairly modern but had nowhere to put shampoo, shower gel or soap,it also had no heating. The food was pretty grim stuff and as we were in a coach party pretty limited choice. The reception personnel appeared as though any questions you put to them was total infringement on there job. The bulk of the waiters in the dining room were hoverers, waiting to get shut of you.Being in a coach party you were told you could get a drink to take for your evening meal n the bar at reception level and carry it down more flights of stairs, even though there was a bar in the dining area presumably only for American visitors I gave it one star as we paid extra for a sea view and that was good apart from the Windows were mucky. I sincerely feel that there appears to be a somewhat lack of management at this hotel, bit like Fawlty Towers in many ways but not funny as that was. Regarding people with disabilities such as i have, heart failure and severe problems with mobility,as I have,,No lift just climb them stairs the best you can. As a bonus the handy man and cleaning staff appeared very friendly,as hotel staff really should be.Rest assur if I manage to get back to the lovely island of Skye I won't be staying in Dunollie Yours a dissapointed customer

Nice range of whisky’s with the hotel littered with different boxes versions and most available over the bar. One of the few places with a proper drinks list, whiskies included & prices. Located close to a Co-Op and gift stores, but no fridge in bedrooms be warned before you stock up. Large downstairs eating area looking over the water & reasonable food. Check the fish is local & fresh before ordering. The rooms are quirky. Large area (we had 2 extra single beds in ours) but don’t do the little things well. No bedside table, toilet door backs into the toilet, no soap tray in the shower, nowhere to put your luggage up on, no fridge but still a functioning reasonable hotel. From all accounts the what in the area and the bed was comfortable, although tiny comparatively (double bed) Friendly staff and reasonably priced

Stayed here for one night when in Skye. Rooms were very comfortable. Staff friendly. We also had great dinner and breakfast. Absolutely outstanding views right on the waterfront. We had drinks sitting outside looking out to sea on a lovely summers night watching the sun go down! Remarkable.

Looks dreary from outside, tho is a lot nicer inside! The car park is pretty awful, gravel -great for motorcycles, not….. and pretty much a free for all! It is in a beautiful location, right on the shoreline. Lovely views around the hotel. The view from our room was of concrete and gravel - stunning! The room was comfortable and clean. Had what you needed The ensuite was EXCELLENT obviously recently refurbished The restaurant could be a lot better. 2 things basically need improvement. 1. Between the 4 of us, 2 thought the meal was alright, 2 were unimpressed. 2. We all agreed the waiting service was poor. The women really looked unhappy throughout the time we were in the restaurant. They gave the impression we were an imposition on there time! The cost seems high for the standards presented even taking into account the location.

For the price we paid, the hotel is dilapidated to say the least, the rooms are old and shabby, the beds are very hard, the breakfast is poor and almost inedible, courtesy does not exist, the room was not even cleaned, the towels were never changed, only after we complained they were brought to our room, the management is ridiculous. Do not come to this hotel leave it alone.

After a 770 mile drive , a stay at the Dunollie hotel was more than welcome . Lots of parking space, lovely views , nice hotel , delicious food , local drink available and kind , helpful staff . To be able to relax and eat our food with wonderful views of the Scottish coast and mountains was just perfect .

I'll start with the positives. Fantastic waterfront location with stunning views and where seals and sea otters have been spotted. Rooms are basic but comfortable enough. Bathroom fresh and modern. The staff are mostly friendly and efficient although seem to lack overall training and direction. At times there seemed to be no leadership & staff were disorganised. Breakfast was good, hot & tasty. The hotel is let down by its truly awful dinners, bland and overcooked meat & veg summed up the various main courses my family and I had the misfortune to sample. (So awful no meal was even half eaten.) Starters & desserts were better. Beware the fancy descriptions though, berry coulis turned out to be a red ice cream sauce from a bottle! Whipped cream came pure white and clearly squirted out of a can! The hotel also suffers from a lack of attention to detail. My room had cups & tea/coffee facilities but no teaspoons. The bathroom looked recently redone but sadly the many paint splatters had not be cleaned off the floor. Only one unheated rail for our towels meant our towels never fully dried. Bathroom was unheated. Good wardrobe hanging space but no drawers. Duvet cover had a huge rip in it. Needed a net curtain at the window, was overlooked by several bedroom windows and had to close curtains to get changed! Skirting boards had last been dusted probably in 2021 and the carpet edges looked to have last seen a vacuum at a similar time! Despite having dozens of rooms and three coaches in, no evening entertainment was provided. Unsurprisingly not many people relaxed in the bar area (also a walkthrough from reception/ dining to rooms). The hotel could significantly improve its bar revenue if entertainment was provided. The lighting is also too harsh in this area. Also, despite being full, the bar in the restaurant was not staffed, causing diners (often of advanced age) to carry drinks down a flight of stairs. It would be great if an enclosed seating area was added, to enable guests to relax looking at the stunning views, without getting munched by midges. Currently only the dining room and some bedrooms have these views. The hotel has potential, and I would return if the issues were addressed & that was realised.
