The 4 star Mercure Riesa with 103 airconditioned rooms is 500 m from the city centre, at the beginning of the pedestrian zone and close to the Elbe river cycling track. In front of the hotel you will find the largest steel sculpture in Europe, created by Jorg Immendorff as well as a tram stop for the free city tram. In-house brewery, a South American restaurant and 7 meeting rooms with modern technology. Internet access in the rooms. Fitness circuit in the stairwell. Free parking for cars and buses.
We stayed in this hotel for 3 nights when visiting the city of Dresden to the south of Riesa. We opted for this choice given the much higher prices in Dresden and the relative proximity of Riesa to Dresden. The location at around 50 km north of Dresden does require private transportation though. However the route to and from Dresden along the Elbe river is very pleasant and beautiful. The Mercure hotel in Riesa is not your typical hotel from the chain. The rooms are extremely spatious and clean and have good bathroom facilities. The hotel is relatively new and contempory in style. I was in this hotel during a business trip in Germany March '11; when I am in this area, I always reserve in this hotel because it is one of the few high-level accomodations in this mid-size town. Almost any hour of the day or night you check-in, there is always someone of the personnel assisting you in your needs. Annected restaurant is offering a broad enough range of full satisfying specialities until late in the evening, which is good for guest arriving late, being the ways connecting to this town definitely not the best or the fastest in all Germany. Location is peaceful enough, though along the main road entering the town; good for business in case of fast transfer to the near industrial area, as well as for leisure in case of a nice walk along the river Elbe.

We recently spent 7 nights at the Mercure Riesa. It is a new and modern hotel with very comfortable and attractive rooms. Not luxury accommodations by any means, but we had all that we needed. The hotel staff are very friendly and helpful and will go out of their way to help with taxis, train info, directions, etc. One downside is that you can hear noisy neighbors quite easily. It is a mile walk to the Erdgas Arena and a much shorter walk to the downtown section of town. The breakfast (included) is very good and ample -- great coffee!
