It isn’t easy to provide a review on a holiday that was wonderful every day for 10 days, there is just so much to praise about this resort. Sun Island is a large compared to most Maldives resorts, so there is plenty of choice of activities, food, or just places to relax, but it is not crowded. The beaches are quiet, spacious and pristine, and the whole island is beautifully cultivated with manicured palms and flowers. Some people choose the water bungalows, but we preferred some beach. We had a lovely sunset villa, a really superb setup with great layout and lovely fittings, my wife shed happy tears when we were shown in, as it exceeded her hopes for this dream come true. The villa came with our own loungers on what felt like a private stretch of white sand and incredibly clear, warm sea, but if we chose to spend some time by the main pool it was still no problem to find seating. We were greeted on arrival by our host Faiz, who gave us his WhatsApp contact details and for the next 10 days responded immediately and most helpfully to any question or query we had. His professionalism was matched by his charming friendliness; he really made us feel that we were in the best of hands, and that he genuinely cared about us having a superb holiday. His example was matched by every member of staff we met. Our housekeeper Asheen was delightful, always going the extra mile to make sure things were perfect for us. Food in the main restaurants is excellent, the choice is huge and changed daily, and in 10 days we did not try a single dish that was anything but lovely. We dined mostly in the Southern Star restaurant, always greeted and seated by a huge smile from Rachel, and served by Alam who made sure we had everything we needed, and always remembered our preferences and favourites – he was a star! We also never saw chef Rakeesh without a smile. The Italian and Thai a la carte restaurants, while not included in the all-inclusive package, are superb, beautifully located with incredible lit-up night views of fish, rays and sharks while you eat delightful food, and well worth trying. Alamin in the Thai restaurant made the night extra-special for us. Also, don’t miss out of there’s a beach seafood night from the main restaurants – wow! What a meal, a true fine dining experience - chef Murugan worked wonders. The main bar is comfortable with nightly entertainments and a friendly atmosphere. The house beer and wines are quite good without spending extra on top of your package, and a fair range of spirits and cocktails are also included. Anil looked after us in the bar and always remembered our choices and room number. The big event for us was a beach wedding ceremony. Eliza from the events team organised everything perfectly for us, and we had the most wonderful, perfect day, beyond anything we could have expected. Jakir conducted the ceremony as minister, and all of the wedding team, not least Deepatik one of our charming flower girls, made the day something we will remember and cherish for life. There is a refreshingly positive ‘can do’ attitude from the staff at Villa Park, and a welcoming smile from everybody – it is clearly a very well-managed resort and we would return in a heartbeat. It may not be the most exclusive of Maldives Islands, but it has so much to offer. You can have just peace and tranquillity with good food, or you can choose from so many activities. What you won’t do is be either bored or disappointed!…
