All eight of us (2 families: 4 adults, 4 teenagers) were immediately entranced when we arrived at Batu Mandi for our three night stay. What a stunning place, with the jungle on one side and the river on the other! We were welcomed by Jamila who proved to be an amazing chef and lovely hostess. We had anticipated venturing into town for at least one or two meals but we quickly realized that we wouldn't be leaving--her cooking is amazing! Her son took us on a tour of the garden, where they grow an impressive variety of fruits that Jamila transforms into the freshest juices we will ever have. The kids loved swimming in the river and playing frisbee in the expansive lawn. The rooms are basic but clean and comfortable. If we go back to Bukit Lawang, we will be staying at Batu Mandi!

Really enjoyed our stay here. Really friendly family that will teach you Indonesian. The food is amazing. They have some vegetarian options. They also offer a laundry service and we were able to leave our big bags here while going to the jungle. Highly recommended

This is the third time I have visited Bukit Lawang and the third time I have stayed at Batu Mandi. Words cannot describe how magical this place. A hidden gem in the Sumatran jungle that you just don’t want to leave. Pick up can be arranged to and from the airport and when you arrive the staff are so friendly and welcoming. The rooms are clean and basic and the garden surrounding and fresh food is amazing. You can order food whenever you like and this is simply like home away from home but with room service. Wifi connection is good. Treks to the orangutans and elephants and massages can all be arranged via the hotel if you wish. Any stay here will be truly memorable.

Had a wonderful time at this lovely family run guesthouse. Basic but clean rooms with towels and mosquito nets provided. Delicious food freshly prepared, if something is not on the menu just ask and they will make it. Delicious fruit juices all made from fresh fruit in the garden. Tranquil place set in beautiful garden with stream and jungle close by for elephants trip and orangutans. Amazing place. Support this family and visit x

We had a lovely stay there before doing a orangutan trek. The food was fantastic, fruit juices freshly squeezed from the fruits they grow in their garden. Very welcoming staff. We had a great sleep away from any mosquitos or noises. On top of that the place is beautiful and feels isolated in the jungle but still being close to the village.

Run by a family who were extremely friendly, they shared a barbecue with me and gave me some amazing tips on what to do and where is best to visit. I went trekking and tubing down the river, reassuring to know that there are still places like this in the world. It is truly a hidden gem.
