BACK TO NATURE - THE HIDDEN PARADISE If you are looking for the most hidden place in Bukit Lawang, in the middle of nature, surrounded by the North Sumatran rainforest and its wildlife inhabitants, our eco-friendly Back To Nature Guesthouse or Back to Nature Jungle Camp is the perfect place for you! Our friendly staff will pick you up from the village bus terminal or car park, carry your luggage and guide you along the river bank track which was built by the owner himself over a period of several years. We can also provide private car pick-up service from Medan airport or other destinations. Back to Nature is a genuine jungle retreat full of peace and relaxation, inmidst beautiful, lush nature with lots of fresh air. It is a place away from the "hustle and bustle" of the world and all the troubles that come with it. If you are planning a personal time-out from your busy life to calm your mind and nourish your soul, practice meditation or yoga, or you want to enjoy pure nature and wildlife, try jungle trekking or traditional tube rafting, our guesthouse will be the perfect choice for you. Accomodation (total 6): A) In the main building close to the river: 4 double rooms (2 standard rooms / 2 rooms with river/garden view) B) In the garden area, both with a wonderful panorama, lots of privacy, only a few steps above the main building: 1 exclusive bamboo bungalow with a double bed and a big terrace 1 chalet with a veranda and a bedroom on the upper floor Guests staying with us can enjoy a refreshing swim in the river and visit our own nature trail and panorama outlook in our privately owned jungle (120 hectares). The nature trail will be slowly and continously expanded under eco-friendly aspects (following naturally given trails without using big machines or cutting jungle) We can arrange your jungle trekking experience with professional guides to see the orang-utans and more wildlife in Gunung Leuser Nationalpark which is just across the river. In our restaurant we serve tradional indonesian as well as western style food, fresh from the village market every day. Free WIFI in the evening hours. Our continuous mission is to buy even more jungle areal in the future to prevent further deforestation by logging and transformation in plantations. We grow fruit trees for the wild animals to prevent them from going near the crops of the villages. We have planted 1.500 fruit trees so far. YOU CAN HELP and contribute to our mission by staying at Back to Nature Guesthouse! Come to Bukit Lawang and see our breathtaking natural reserves and our precious orang-utans. As long as ecotourism can provide an income for the local people to earn a living and feed their families, they will protect their jungle and the animals that live in it. THANK YOU! Aca and his Back to Nature Guesthouse Team!
Amazing location in the heart of the jungle on the river. The hosts treat you like family and go out of their way to help you. All meals were delicious. The walk from town to Back to Nature is stunning. Hosts were also more than happy to sort out any jungle treks to spot orangutans.

Beautiful ecolodge in a breathtakingly beautiful environment, very nice manager and staff, absolutely worth the walk from the village of Bukit Lawang. It was an amazing first 1 week of our stay in Sumatra. The place really merits the name "ecolodge", very sustainable. Thank you!

Back to Nature is a real blessing! Totally disconnect from society and immerse yourself in a simple, humble yet relaxed environment! From the day we arrived we were welcomed by the wonderful staff and the big boss Aca, and although we only intended to stay for 3 nights we extended our stay for an extra few nights! Good food, good people, good energies. What more do you want ?

I truly loved this place. It is away from the village in pristine jungel. We were lucky and saw both orangutang, white-handed gibbon, thomas leaf-monkey and both makak species (crab and pig-tailed) from the lodge. Fantastic! Our room, on the hill, had amazing view and was over-all very nice. Good food, we are vegetarians and thats no problem. I can really recomend to stay here but off course it is in the jungel so no 24 hour electricity, no toilet paper (since the paper is maid of jungel trees) but 5 stars in my opinion!

This hotel is more than worth the 40 minute hike if you are looking for a place with no distractions. The food and service were fantastic, we thoroughly enjoyed every dinner, breakfast, and drink we had there. Fresh water is available to fill up water bottles before heading out into the jungle or the village. Sitting on the upstairs shared terrace or downstairs in the open restaurant you look across the river onto a wall of lush green jungle, spanning up and downstream as far as you can see. Monkeys and monitor lizards often frequent the far banks for drinking and washing, so sitting and dreaming your day away is always potentially eventful. The rooms are spacious and clean, though a bit dark during the day when there is no electricity. The beds are comfortable and clean, the mosquito net provided is free of holes and made-up with the bed on arrival and every morning. The bathroom has the necessary toilet and shower, and a coconut-rainshower. Or if you want just go wash yourself in the river. The staff were great, always willing to help or answer questions. We had a good chat with the owner on the last evening of our stay, he had some very interesting stories to tell about his lifeb and of his future plabs withthe hotel. If you're not planning on going immediately, keep this place on you watch-list for the next couple of years!…

A special place for everybody looking for real nature! About 4 hours drive from airport Kuala Namu, Medan, you are in the middle of nowhere. Best located at the riverbank around 45 minutes walk from Bukit Lawang with Supermarkets, Restaurants and other hotels. Our bungalow around 5 minutes above the Mainbuilding was with great view. Absolutely helpfull and friendly stuff around Aca, the owner. The Gunung Leuser Nationalpark we visited with our guide was just great. We saw several Orang Utan and Macaques, Thomas Leaf monkeys and so on. Here, you are really back to nature. The lodge helps keeping the rainforest alive. Thanks a lot for that and everything!

From Bukit Lawang center you have to walk around 45min to get to the "Back to nature" hotel and restaurant. But this is worth every step! You sit on a nice terrace in a beautiful garden with direct view into the jungle. The staff is very friendly and the served food was original Indonesian and very delicious. They also offer fruit juices and milkshakes. For Indo conditions the food was served quickly.

We hiked there to have lunch. About 40min from the centre of Bukit Lawang along the river and through the jungle. The path is a little adventureous, but this is how everything is brought into the jungle camps. The food and fruit juices were delicious. I had Gado Gado...a vegetarian bowl of vegetables and peanut sauce and tempeh sambal, spicy fried tempeh...I loved the food- really authentic and the price was fine..of course cheaper than in the city centre. For sure, worth hiking there.

We spent 4 very happy nights at Back to Nature. When we arrived in Bukit Lawang, it was exciting to hike there - they provided porters to carry our bags- and arrive far away from the crowds in a beautiful spot by the river in the middle of the jungle. The staff were really friendly and created a great atmosphere, they were also able to help organise activities seamlessly. The food was delicious and varied so we enjoyed all our meals there. The swimming was also great and made it a really easy place to hang out with children. Very highly recommended.
