The room is not comfortable - too hot at day time and cold at night. No blanket provided. Not enough light in the room. Bathroom is dirty and water pressure is very low . Staff is not welcoming to guests and not doing anything to help.

The mattress on bed is old and very uncomfortable . The room is very hot, fan is not working properly (broken button). Very small light in the room. Staff doesn't care about customers, by rude reacting to complaints. If you are not buying anymore services from them, they will ask you to check out. Not recommended, there are better places to stay in Bukit Lawang for the same price.

The accommodation was basic but perfect: clean room, clean toilet and comfortable mattress. And for the Best price in town! The food was delicious and very affordable. Super friendly and helpful staff. And the jungle trekking with Yuri, Rudi and Joe was amazing!

We were apprehensive about our trip to Bukit Luang. We had read the reviews beforehand but were prepared to risk it. We arrived after a long journey from Medan airport just as it was getting dark. On arrival in the village we were told we had a further 10 minute walk. This was slightly disconcerting in a dark strange village but a cheerful young man invited us to follow him, so we did. The accomodation is very basic and we were a little concerned as to what we had let our selves in for. However, we settled down for a traditional homecooked evening meal and a refreshing cold Bintang, or two and soon felt better. The room was ok but we didn't sleep well, when we got up early the next moning the local monkeys were already playing on the balcony and the view of the river and the steep banks of dense rainforest soon made us feel at home. Breakfast pancakes and fresh orange juice was great. All the staff were cheerful and helpful and we were made to feel like part of the family from that moment. We were anxious to book a jugle trek to see the orangutangs and opted for monday and tuesday as weekends are often busier. A gude talked us through our trip and answered all our concerns. Monday morning after more pancakes we set off with our guide and his assistant a 3 single travellers onto or adventures. Nothing could have prpared us for how phisically difficult this trek was but we took it slowly and had lots of rest and water breaks. Then we were face to face with 3 orangutangs in a family group near enough to see clearly but not close enough to feel like a zoo. During the day we had a break for fruit snack and a delicious chicken and rice lunch. We arrived at our camp by the river by late afternoon, the camp was very basic and quite open to the elements but a wallow in the river, accomanied by a huge monitor lizard! a camp fire and a wonderful evening meal freshly cooked for us soon cheered us up. After an uncomfortable night we woke early for tea and biscuits. After a freshly cooked breakfast we continued our trek. During the 2 days we saw 13 oranutangs, apes gibbons and monkeys, a chamelion and a hornbill. The trek far exceed our expectations, our guide Noran was witty and knowlegable and we felt safe in his charge. Noran has an excellent command of English and we learnt alot about the rainforest, the village and Sumatra in general. Igel was Noran's assistant who quietlf took up the rear and seemed to just appear with food or water or whatever we needed, he is also a dab hand with a massage for sore muscles. After yet another substatial lunch, watched over by mum and baby orangutang and a family of monkeys we white water rafted back into the village. Wow what an experience. If you are in any doubt about this trip all I can say is go in with an open mind it is something you will never forget

cheap guesthouse. very good food. we did a 2 day trek which we booked directly at RainForest guesthouse. Anuar was our guide and I really recommend him. Anuar knows the jungle well. he is respectful of animals. very responsible for our security. we spent an evening in the jungle with him and his team eating great Indonesian dishes and playing cards while singing. a superb memory. thank you Anuar!

Our experience in the Rainforest Guesthouse was just perfect. The place is all made of of wood and located by the river with a very nice area to chill out on its hammocks or deckchairs. The food they provide is damn delicious and so cheap and the staff members really made us feel like home, interacting with us and even singing songs at night. Also, they helped us organizing our jungle trekking which went amazingly well. Would definitely go back!

I had read briefly about rainforest guesthouse on some travel blog about jungle trekking to see orangutans. So happy we decided to spend time here. Rainforest guesthouse organised our jungle trek and were very accommodating throughout our stay. Room was small but comfortable for the night before and after the trek. The restaurant/bar was cheap and serves delicious Indonesian dishes. Good for vegetarians. Great atmosphere. The night before our trek we sat singing with locals playing acoustic guitar before heading to another bar with them. The whole team from the employees at the guesthouse as well as our guide Jojo for the jungle trek made our stay in Bukit Lawang one we cannot forget. Thanks also to Nella for always being on standby to answer our questions.

You'll get a small private room for a very cheap price. The location of the Guesthouse is lovely, right next to the river. They organized a driver for me from the airport, so it was super easy to get there. Big thanks to my driver! I then booked a trek with them. The trek with Nurdin was really fun and it was a nice experience! I will always recommend doing the trek with him.

Nice Guest House at great location, near river. The room was basic, but clean and the balcony to sit in front of the room was great. Monkeys everywhere. The food was delicious. We want to thank the owner for his kindness in all the help.

We arrived here for two nights, only endured 1 night. I woke up in our dingy dark room completely covered head to toe in aggressive bed bug bites. It was really noisy, the hammocks smelled like body odour and we were basically forced into to booking a tour as soon as we arrived. I especially wouldn’t recommend this to females travelling alone as the guys that work here are sleazy and rude. The owner is also rude and would ask us to move so other groups could take our table. There are many other places that are slightly more expensive, still cheap, they are much much better. Spend a little more and actually enjoy Bukit Lawang! (Sabiyak hotel is good) Photo is of just a few bites early on. Got much worse than this.
