The experiences from the 3 days/2 nights Jungle Trek will stay with me forever. Our guides Erwin and Matius spotted every chameleon and monkey, and had always a joke to share. I felt safe throughout, and the food was truly a dream. Thomas Retreat is a must for any nature enthusiast. Thomas assists with every question and arranges transportation to the airport for you.

We went for 3 days into the jungle. It was a breathtaking tour with so many different wildlife encounters thanks to our cheerful and experienced guides Erwin and Matius. The jungle tour was an amazing experience I will gladly remember for my entire life.

We were on the 2day jungle trek with the LOCAL and PROFESSIONAL guides REN, TUNDI AND DIMAS from Thomas Retreat Trek. What to say? It was just mindblowing. We saw so many wild animals like orang utans, monkeys, birds and insects, in fact mostly because of the knowledge from the local guides. They really liked to tell us about their jungle home and were always kind and heartful. The nature ist just amazing in and around Bukit Lawangs jungle. Thomas Retreats eco- thinking (mostly small groups, no hecitating on following the animals, re- using dishes) is just highlighting. We had so many fresh fruits, a lot of good food (breakfast, lunch, dinner) and always hot tea. Sleeping in the jungle was an amazing adventure. Thank you again for this incredible 'once in a lifetime' - experience, Thomas. …

We did the jungle trek with 2 days 1 night with Toni, Putra, Iyon and Matius from Thomas Retreat. The guides explained us a lot about the nature and were eager to show us the best places to see the orang utangs. The food and accommodation in the jungle was very good and we had an amazing experience. Would highly recommend it.

Thomas is a great host. It was very easy to get in contact with him. All questions I had in advance has been answered in minutes. So I made it….. And it was one of the best things I ever did. The place at the Thomas retreat is very nice - located at a river, nice rooms, good food, very nice staff! The trek itself was a blast! I was in a small group, we made three days and two nights in the jungle. We had amazing guides who always took care of our needs. Even in the jungle the food was great. So - 10/10…..

What a lovely experience! I did the 2 night jungle track with Thomas retreat and it was such an beautiful adventure. The guides Rain and Tondi where so lovely and both where super passionate about the jungle. We saw 7 orang-oetans and plenty other animals and wildlife. Also a big shout out to Djo and Djé for cooking the best food ever (cooked in the middle of the jungle!!). Conclusion: book this!!! Once in a lifetime experience.

6 stars for Thomas and his team. We had 5 unforgettably beautiful days in Bukit Lawang. Everything was perfectly organized. We were picked up from the airport, had a nice apartment with air conditioning, good clean bed and well working shower. Of course you have to book the Deluxe Suite. Nice view to the village and jungle. Food was super good. Everyone was incredibly nice and took great care of us. Our overnight jungle trip was truly unique, but very exhausting. Our guide Ervin and his assistant Arno led us patiently and safely through the wilderness. The dinner at the jungle camp was fantastic. And at least rafting back to our home base. The return trip to the airport (departure 6am!) was organized so that we left at 1am in a luxury sleeper vehicle. So everything perfect. Of course you live on the edge of the jungle. That means lack of hygiene, water, power failures are normal. On Saturdays there is live music from The Jungle Man Band. Great! We love Bukit Lawang and the team around Thomas Retreat. Hope we come back again. …

We stayed 5 days at Thomas’ retreat, including a 3-day trek into the national park organised by Thomas. It was truly amazing! Thomas’ guide had great wildlife tracking skills, had many stories about the forest, plants and animals and treated nature with great respect. The guide was also happy to do a longer trekking to see extra wildlife when we had energy left. In the end we saw many orangutan’s, 2 gibbon species, many macaques, many Thomas leaf monkeys, lizards, turtles, squirrels, many butterflies, weird insects, a hornbill and a wild peacock. The food provided by Thomas both in his retreat and in the jungle was great! During the trek we got many fruits every day, delicious nasi goreng for lunch, and more than 5 different dishes for dinner. Thomas can also easily accommodate dietary wishes, such as vegetarian meals. Thomas himself was also very helpful by checking in on us multiple times and asking if there was anything we needed! He is happy to help you with practical things such as transport to/from Bukit Lawang, washing clothes, etc. We had a great experience and can certainly recommend!…

We stayed at Thomas‘ Retreat for 4 nights, including an awesome and most impressive 2 day jungle trek with John and Agil (aka White Tiger ;-)). We saw heaps of wildlife from orang-utans over gibbons, Thomas leaf monkeys to peacocks and lizards. John and Agil were so good at spotting them and were really good company. The food they prepared on the trek was absolutely amazing. They catered for everyone’s preferences in the group and provided so many alternatives so that everyone was stuffed in the end of the day. We cannot praise all the amazing staff, the retreat and Thomas himself enough. They did not only make our time here very enjoyable but were also really helpful with our onwards journey. We also strongly recommend joining Matius for a Batcave Tour - and if you are lucky enough, you might even get to see more Orang-Utans there! We really hope to come back one day to enjoy this precious part of the world once more. Thank you so much and the best of regards from Germany!…
