I went there by udon bus tour. It was around 10am in the morning but already lots of people were eating udon. Kamata udon was really taste. Fried mashed potato was also great.

Had lunch, the row looked long but was short in time. Including the line we had lunch in 24 minutes. Parking is at 100 metres, quite a lot of places. Sitting area is basic but works. Noodles are nice. I liked the potato crocket.
Yamagoeudon is an extremely popular udon place with a long history, located in a small quiet town, next to some farm land and fields. It has raving reviews and have been listed in various travel guides and blogs as the must-go place for Sanuki Udon....I think there is no other way to get there other than driving as it is quite out there, but regardless of its location, there was a queue to the shop, of which mostly are locals (always a good sign). There is a menu board outside the shop with pictures, and samples of the different portion sizes (no English). Note to take a picture of the menu and decide what you want to eat first. You will realize the queue moves quite fast, and by the time you are in the shop, someone will ask you what you to order, and there is no menu for you to point at. No one speaks English, so we pointed at our phones to order the food. Another way is to study their website beforehand. The sequence is as follows: Decide what you want to eat -> enter shop and grab a tray -> call out your order -> receive your udon -> move forward to the cashier where you can pick up tempura items -> pay -> free seating (indoor and outdoor). The udon is amazing - texture is the perfect chewiness! The meal is also really good value for money, a single portion ranges from 200yen to 300yen. The sitting area is very relaxed. We saw locals pouring in some sauce into their udon and we tried some too – tasted good, I believe it is some sort of soy sauce. It is indeed very worthwhile to try this place! Do note they are closed on Sundays. Two parking lots available - if you go on busier days, there is someone directing parking.More
I really enjoy Yamagoe udon and go there fairly regularly. There are long lines on the weekend, so I prefer weekdays. However, there is a lot of seating on benches in the garden, so the lines always move pretty fast. The udon has body and...is really cheap. There are some unusual tempura offerings which you don't see elsewhere. I like the potato, since it seems to be boiled in a flavored broth. Chicken is a good choice for someone who is less adventurous. Yamagoe is a good choice for introducing out-of-town guests to traditional Sanuki udon.More
Yamagoe. The most delicious noodle i have ever tasted in my life. The most resistant thing i have ever chewed in my life. Its chewier than mochi and even gum. Yet it cuts down and wow. Incredible and this noodle is one that ill remember...for rest of my life. Surely the most delicious noodle dish i have ever had. About Yamagoe: This is the most famous legendary udon place in entire Japan. When I had arrived here via taxi, there were over 150 people in line already. Since Yamagoe is located out of nowhere in middle of the farm, hence the only way to reach here is through your car or a taxi. Most Japanese people that come dine here drive over 5-6 hours just to eat this legendary sanuki udon. Kamatama, the hot udon with raw egg is the most famous udon type here. It is one of the best way to enjoy this noodle because air and humidity in this region allows the udon noodles to be as resistant and chewy as possible.More
