Great pastries, quick bites, and, above all, service. Gennaro and team were incredibly friendly and even taught me some new phrases in Neopolitan!

Located near Porta Capuana, one of the oldest entrances to the city of Naples, L’Antica Pasticceria Carraturo has been in operation since 1837, and although founder Pietro Carraturo has long since passed his recipes live on in the form of a diverse collection of Pastries...currently overseen by descendent Ulderico. Easily accessible from Napoli Centrale, and best known as one of Naples’ most traditional Pasticceria, Carraturo opens its doors beginning at 06h30 Tuesday through Sunday, a diverse collection including several items no longer sold elsewhere available though Sfogliatelle remain the most popular choice by far. Producing Naples “little leaves” by the hundreds daily, and reportedly the birthplace of Sfogliatella Frolla which places Ricotta Cream inside a Shortcrust originally intended for “common people” unable to afford the better-known Sfogliatella Riccia, it is from Carraturo’s elder oven that each warm Pastry is served, a cost of €1.50 amongst the city’s cheapest despite unparalleled taste and texture. Built on tradition, at least six-dozen additional Pastries made on-site daily, guests will also find a full bar and Espresso offered inside L’Antica Pasticceria Carraturo L-shaped interior, the Torrone delightful with prominent Almond notes while Mostacciolo Duro is something like the consistency of Honeycomb dipped in a rigid Dark Chocolate shell. Confusing with Sapienza, a seemingly inedible Biscuit that actually drew blood on second-attempt to chew, it was setting this aside that Carraturo’s Baba proved unforgettable thanks to Limoncello Frosting, while both styles Sfogliatelle made fans immediately want to apply for Italian citizenship and move in next door.More
Great selection of pastries - we bought a selection of sweet items that we had no idea what they were! The lady who served us spoke English and made some great suggestions. The chocolate pot was amazing! Great service and great selection of pastries -...definitely give it a go!More
The staff is very friendly and helpful. It's a nice place to take a quick break and grab a bite. They also have a coffee bar where they serve drinks.
Went here today to get an icecream and a spritz. After purchasing the items we tried to sit down for what would have been literally 10 minutes while we had them. The extremely rude waitress would not allow us to sit down to have the...things we just purchased. She just said "table service table service" over and over. Really embarrassing in front of other customers to be told we were not allowed to sit down. Obviously empty tables are more important than the customers that fill them.More
Dear sir/madame, you posted the review on the wrong property. We are in Porta Capuana since 1837 and nowhere else. We do not have seats... We know that people often confuse because of the similar writing on wall, but this is not the same shop!...More
This is a lovely pastry shop that dates back from 1837 and offers a range of freshly baked pastries. We stopped by here on a couple of occasions for coffee, hot chocolate and pastries. Most of the patrons seem to get takeaways while they have...a few stools and chairs for those preferring to eat in. The marmalade buns and the chocolate buns were delicious as was the Neapolitan specialty of sfogliatella, it was delicately flaked and flavorsome. Would recommend stopping by if in the area.More
Sfogliatella looks awesome tastes better. It is worth it! An opportunity to taste typical napolitana food.
Constant Companion and I were departing Naples on our culinary tour, but not before visiting Antica Pasticceria Carraturo for some appropriate gastronomic souvenirs. Founded in 1837 and located near the Porta Capuana we were fortunate to be shown around by the current owner, Ulderico Carraturo,...who's son will likely carry on the tradition. Display after display of heavenly pastries so beautiful that their visual appeal is only surpassed by their taste. Authentic and genuine the Sfogliatella here is as flaky and memorable as Naples' Sun and Sea!!More
The shop had many different pastries, cakes and icea cream; It was clean, and the staff who spoke English were helpful by recommending us some pastries. The cannoli was really good, crunchy and creamy, and the shop's specialty the sfogliatelle was very crispy, yet soft on...the inside. There are some tables if you want to eat inside, but you can also take away. Highly recommended!More
Tasted the tiramisu, must try! From the freezer so icey/semifreddo taste. Bellissimo! Also small cannoli and baba were nice :-)
I was originally born in Naples, on my first time back after I initially left as a young teenager (now 49) my first visit upon my return was to Carraturo. It was incredible as everything tastes just like 35 years ago. I had to be...dragged out of there or I would have practically eaten everything in sight. The place is right in the historic part of town where you can appreciate the beauty of arquitecture and of the folks that live there.More
The first good impression of this bakery were the nice people working there and the locals that were rotating in & out buying goodies. Sfogliatelle was my mission in Naples and the bakeries here didn't disappoint.
We wanted to taste the shell-shaped Italian pastry sfogliatella with some espresso and we thought it was delicious. We sat in front of the eatery but most locals simply order their food as takeaways. The place is in the heart of the historic centre so...grab some sfogliatella or baba with whipped cream which is even more delicious and watch the tourists walk past and the locals go about their business. Price is very reasonable. Watch out for beggars and pickpockets, as the area is notorious for petty crimes.More
I recently visited a gelateria in Piazzetta Nilo in Spaccanapoli with a similar name and gave it a review thinking that it belonged to the same family (Carraturo) that owns this gelateria in Corso Garibaldi near Via Casanova. I was wrong. This gelateria, i.e. the...Antica Pasticceria Carraturo" was the same one (across the old Cinema Gloria) where my father used to take me almost every school day in the early 50's for cappuccino e cornetto before saying good bye for the day (he to work and I to school). I have gone back to visit my hometown at least once a year for the last 40 years and, when I can, I always stop here (last time in December 2015). It was great then and it is still great now. More than that, it is part of my life memories. Saluti Sig. Vittorio.More
