I used to come here years ago and it still is as good as it always has been. Healthy portions of great local cuisine - if you like the hearty stuff. There are salads but don't waste your time. Great atmosphere and friendly and service....Try to book a table the day/evening before as there are not many tables.More

Filled with locals, serving excellent wine and typical dishes of the area -- not designed for vegetarians but you can make it work with Handkäse or a salad -- and solid wine from the local wine cooperative. Reasonable prices. Not too loud, not too fancy,...not too pricey but original, local and friendly.More

My friend and i always return to this restaurant when he visits. Andechs dunkel beer from tap as our vorspeise, followed by schnitzel for him and bratwurst with saurkraut for me. We trade one schnitzel for a bratwurst. The meat is great from the neighboring...butcher. I highly recommend it.More

When one thinks of a German Weinstube, a place like Zur Schwarzamsel ideally comes to mind: cozy, traditional, with good but unpretentious food (we loved the Flammekuchen here) and a good selection of local wines, all served up with good cheer and kind prices. Our...sizable group sat around a beautiful round table, enjoying the atmosphere and our fellow drinkers. The place closes a bit early (towards 22:30 o'clock), but then Speyer is a rather sleepy (but beautiful) town.More

Had lunch here on a busy Saturday. Had bratwurst and fried potatoes which were excellent. Beautiful décor, wonderful attentive staff and great ambiance. Appeared to be popular with the locals who were very friendly.

One of the best places in Speyer to eat a schnitzel. The beer is ok but it's sweet, like s typical German beer. Not to mention, anything with shrimp is expensive. So stick with the schnitzel.

Another traditional Weinstube - and again everything but a tourist trap. This place is less cosy then for example the Rabennest. Deer antiers are hanging in the guest room - what is common for a certain kind of traditional German places but not everyones taste....I know already my grandfather used to go there. So it is also a very traditional place for Speyer. It is in a street paralleling the Maximilian (main) street, the Korngasse. even tough it is not the main street you may walk there in the dark. I you walk along the Maximilianstrasse from the Cathedral (Dom) to the city tower (Altpörtel) the street narrows after the Café Hindenburg with a building called Alte Münz. Turn right there at the fountain and then the next opportunity after the fountain left (at the Schwanen Apotheke). Then walk down the Korngasse straight forward passing several other restaurants, a church (on the right), some Italian food shops also on the right and still straight forward at the chocolate shop. It is right beside this shop. Booking a table in advance for the evenings is a good idea but its worth going there and try and find out if there are some seats left. Don't be astonished if you are offered to join foreign people's table meaning sharing a table with other guests even if you don't know them. You may agree to do so because this is common in Speyer.More
