Booked here as part of the group tour so quite a large party. This may be why we were so disappointed with what we got. The food was average at best; salad starter consisted of lettuce and lettuce and lettuce with a nice dressing; our...beef stroganoff was chewy and tough with little flavour; dessert was not quite what we're expecting but ok. We couldn't order a bottle of wine, only a glass, so where was it coming from? The end of the meal and the bill proved very strange. We were sitting with 2 other couples and wanted to pay separately. I don't carry cash but was told the bill had to be all cash or all card! Surely even the manageress could work this - but no! Lovely building but food and service did not live up to it.More
Totally agree with Andak: one star too many! We were recommended to this place by our guide. I made a reservation enquiry via their website and we arrived on time. The place was busy - but as we walked in the woman at the entrance...shouted ‘the restaurant is closed - unless you are in a group: are you?’ I said I had made a reservation enquiry : she accused me of lying: she said it must have been for another restaurant and ‘we do not reservations’. There was no sign to say ‘groups only’: she could have said that nicely and we would have accepted it. She could not have been more rude if she had tried! STAY AWAY!More
Attitude very bad. Rude staff. Wont give even 1 star if possible. Don't suggest this place to anyone
Dear Guest, I think you had written this review by mistake. Restaurant Salve currently closed due to COVID-19. Hope to see you next year.
Cosy, comfortable, lovely staff and affordable prices. Gourmet food - not at its best - but certainly good enough. I would go again.
Dear Guest, Thank you so very much for this lovely review! We all look forward to welcome you back to SALVE in the near future.
Started off with a free taste of the pumpkin soup which was good! The fried rye bread and cheese sauce is a must. Enjoyed the chicken fillet with mashed potato and hazelnut sauce. Food was good but a bit expensive.
Dear Guest, Thank you very much for sharing this lovely feedback. We really hope to see you again at SALVE!
Best rabarber desertin town, very cosy atmosphere and great service. It’s good for different size of groups or for couples
Dear Vladislav, Thank you so much for your kind feedback. We are thrilled to hear that you've enjoyed our Rhubarb dessert. We hope to see you again soon! All the best, SALVE team
Been for a dinner on Friday. Good service and really good local food, try the black sausage was delicious, rest of food was tasty and good too. Few but, only when you take seat noticed about 10% service charge and we wait a little bit...too long and restaurant was not full. Not economic but reasonable price.More

Take care that it is not an Italian restaurant. Absolutely suggested. Lovely Latvian food and excellent service.
We like exploring a discovering different places to see and restaurants where we can taste different foods. This place didn't disappoint us
We loved the interior, the female waiter which was friendly, attentive and with good humour. Food very nice - try the salade nicoise. We loved this and had a perfect lunch at Salve. Location in the old town also excellent.
Had a group of 13 ppl. Brilliant, professional service by Margo (Katja). Delicious food! Recommend to stop by and enjoy meal. Has not only traditional Latvian cousin meals but also some popular known dish. Beautiful location. Atmospheric interior. Reasonable prices.
- The staff had no idea we were coming, all though we book weeks in advance. Shame on the manager, I guess. - We ordered several steaks, all of which we asked for to be cooked medium/medium rare. They were all badly overcooked. The waitress...were not helpfull at all, and actually blamed us for being such a big group. She said that the steaks were nice when they were done, but as they had to wait under a heating lamp they turned into well done. Attached is a photo of the meat. She turned quite angry an impolite, and said that it’s not her job to speak with us about this. We ended up eating the dry overcooked pieces of meat at full price (the most expensive dish on the menu) with no sort of compensation. Luckily the grumpy waitress disappeared, and her more pleasant colleague took over our party. So shame of the chef, and shame on the grumpy waitress. - The restaurant apparently charges bigger group with a service charge of 12,5%. We were not aware of this. After our bad experience we actually didn’t feel like tipping, but they actually had the balls to demand themselves some tip. - Will never go back.More
Booked dinner here on our last night in Riga and really wish we had not. After being seated we waited 30 min for a waitress to ask if we would like to order drinks. When we finally got around to ordering we waited a further...30 min for the food to arrive, at which point the mains came out rather than our starters. When the waitress told us the starters were not ready yet we asked for them to be cancelled, which was very poorly received by the waitress who huffed and told us we would get the starters when they were ready. She did eventually accept that we wanted to cancel the order and the mains were in fact very good, which is the only reason I am giving any stars at all. After the meal we made several attempts to ask for the bill and were actively ignored. 25 min later we got up and put our coats on, at which point our waitress ran to the till to print out our bill. It is worth mentioning that one pair of diners who arrived after us were served and received their food before we were able to make our order, while another couple got up and left without ordering, having had a similar experience to ourselves. Overall good food, terrible service.More
