This summer me and my friends visited Mattatoi. Omnia (starter) was delicious. To be fair I’ve never thought that just an aperitivo can bring so much pleasure and satisfaction to me. For second meal we went for a cervo (venison) and manzo (beef) tartar. I...think so far it was the best meal I’ve ever had. Few of my friends are vegetarians so they had a chance to enjoy ravioli with ricotta and saffron. Despite that was a meat restaurant they have quite a few options for different dietary preferences. My meal of choice was tortelli di toro (ravioli buffalo with a pinch of truffle) highly recommended. And desserts - Mamma Mia! Various of choices. It was a tough decision but we decided to have Piña Colada and of course Tiramisu. Refreshing, smooth, not too sweet just perfect . You will miss a lot if you will not try them - that’s for sure. Restaurant has a great location and outstanding dining interior. Summer terrace is quite spacious with a numerous places to be sited. Social distance between tables is well maintained so you can keep your privacy and your conversation to yourself. I will definitely visit this amazing restaurant again. If you want to feel true atmosphere of Abruzzo, Mattatoi is must visit place and I can assure you that you will not be disappointed at all.More

Excellent meat and pizza restaurant. The hot and cold starter’s are delicious and change depending upon what season it is, and are incredibly good value. The owners are very knowledgeable and good at sharing their advice. The main course selection of meat dishes make you...want to come every day of the week. Desserts are all home made and are worthy of being served in a Michelin star restaurant.More

If you want to enjoy a delicious meal, amazing service, drink un cappuccino con dolce I would definitely recommend this marvelous place. Will I come back? My answer is one hundred percent Yes! Cozy atmosphere, tasty pasta and really nice and polite waiter. Can it...be more Italian than that? And by the way I do not speak Italian but the staff do speak some English so it was not a problem at all.More

What a delight to find a thriving and innovative restaurant in rural Italy. The welcome was fantastic, the service too. The attention the waiter gave us was second to none. The menu was explained and recommendations made, the food arrived and was exceptional!! The bread...was the best we have found locally, and then the meat…..amazing - perfectly cooked, soft, tasty - just wow!! The decor is great, the staff exceptional (many English brilliantly). The wine was superb (local) and the beer selection too. We could not fault the place…..More

Mattatoio has repeatedly shown their capabilities combined with service mindness and excellent food quality. Especially credit to Alessandra and Roberto, both are just great and aware of who is the customer. Will certainly go there again

When you are in Abruzzo you have to have arrosticini and this place did not disappoint on that score. We were all Italian so we ordered everything family style which local non tourist trap restaurants prefer... and it was all delicious! The antipasti were spot...on with local flavors and ingredients like prosciutto, pecorino cheese, sausages and pizza bread. The pizza is very good and the arrosticini were great also! The atmosphere is modern with a rustic style yet not country. The service was great and they were on the ball with the kids' requests and drinks which is not easy for a family of 20 people! Great hidden gem in Piacciano!More

I would like to start with the following. This review is not based upon good or bad experience but on our neutral experience. We, unfortunately, choose to go for the spoken dishes by our then booked BnB, which allowed us to have a discount on...the final price. The food was ok, but we believe if you woud just choose something from the menu it would be better. The staff, however, was really friendly to us and I believe are not really accustomed to tourists outside the country of Italy. Therefore, we would still recommend this restaurant but we can't give an actual rating.More

We love this place! Sometimes the service is a little slow for our needs but the food is amazing. The owner always takes time for his guests and also cooks up the most incredible dishes. This visit we started with focaccia bread as big round...as a pizza cut into 8 and two slices with each different meat and cheese topping- I could have been happy just eating this all night it was wonderful. Not sure if it's on the menu, but they are incredibly flexible and will cater for your needs as best they can. Pasta was next... light ravioli filled with ricotta and an astounding sauce containing amongst other things saffron and sage- this guy can really cook! For the meat we went light sharing a single skewer of mixed grill various meats from the grill all cooked to perfection and tasting divine. If you haven't been here you should try it. It is similar to most of the local cuisines but with an extra twist if you want it. Run by an internationally experienced chef it's always given us pleasure. We have visited many times and will always do so when we are in the area. Amazing place - give it a try!More

We had heard great things about Mattatoio from several friends, and had to try it for ourselves. We were not disappointed. A beautiful setting in a medieval village, with an interior that looks as if it stepped out of a restaurant in the Tribeca area...of New York City. Service was great and attentive. The staff all speak very good English. Prices are quite reasonable, and the beer and wine lists are quite good.More

A big group of us went along to Mattatoio's for our first Italian pizza experience. We received a great welcome from all the staff. They were extremely attentive and recommended some really great, typical Italian foods. At the end of the meal he brought out...a variety of Italian digestifs, some were even home made! They were brilliant (and very strong!), I highly recommend the cherry one.More
