Basic hotel, excellent location
Review of Hotel Mucuy

Went there on last night before flight. It is a very basic hotel. It is quite small and it's arranged as a two-story complex. I got room 114, the furthest one to the entrance. Good value, great location and if you only need a place to crash after exploring the center of Mérida it is a nice option. I didn't have any insect visitors on my stay. The staff was attentive. Bed a little on the rough side but not an issue for me. No hot water for shower at 5 AM, but in Merida's summer it was not missed.

I have been here before, a few years back. I remember their very colorful building and painting and the blue water (pool) up front. So I booked again. They must have not done any renovation since. They gave me the room upstairs as they said it has AC and the bottom only has fans. But I never got the control for the AC. I did not mind as it was not needed. But only the daughter speaks English and the mom speaks a little. When I inquired on a tour, they thought immediately that I wanted one and they arranged that I get on a tour the next day. I felt so awkward but I accepted and told them that it will have to be the the day after. Around 9 pm, they told me to be ready in the morning at 9 so they can pick me up for the tour. I told them that I already arranged for the day after. There is no internet in the room, you have to be in their lobby. I swear it is full of mosquitoes. I also saw roaches. If and when I will return to Merida, I will opt to stay elsewhere. Though their location is central.

Small room, clean, but in need of some updating. The pictures are no where near accurate. Cheap place to stay though, just basic. It felt oddly creepy, but I can't say specifically why. Clearly a very well used hotel. If you are on a budget likely fine for you; however there are much nicer places to stay in Merida that cost only slightly more.

If you want a nice authentic Mexican stay in Merida....Hotel Mucuy is one of the BEST!
I must say this was my first time to Merida and I totally enjoyed the experience. In large part because of Hotel Mucuy. They are warm and friendly and pleasant. We felt welcomed from we arrived and we felt like family when we left. It has a warm charm and it is inexpensive. The staff are very pleasant and helpful. It is clean and in a safe area and activities are right around you to explore.

Room tip: Rooms to the far end are away from foot traffic.

Nice little garden and pool, quiet room with AC and warm water for 450peso. No breakfast or restaurant. Clean but a bit old. To check out late was not possible, even if the hotel was empty and we wanted to pay for it, the only possibility was to pay a full more night.
Beside the lacking flexibility a good choice in the center of the city.

Every chance I get I head to the Yucatan of Mexico, specifically the beautiful town of Merida and a stay at Mrs. Ophelia's "Mucuy".
It is home to me and everyone is treated like family. Quiet and peaceful place to rest and just kick back and relax after exploring, shopping and taking in that of the Yucatan.

Room tip: You have a choice of a room with ceiling fan or with A/C and ceiling fan. You're are in a gated facility with 24 hour front desk coverage and are within 2 blocks from all the activity of the historic main center of this beautiful city. Safe at all hours, happy, helpful people, wonderful food and hospitality abound all around. So much to see and do and so much of it free to all.
