Been here many times as its very local to us, its a fairly interesting walk, whether along the old railway track-bed, or up into the woods behind the Ramblers retreat. It's a heavily wooded valley, so not much in the way of open views, always very damp and slightly depressing, oh and watch out for dog muck.

This is a lovely walk in the woods and it has a nice little restaurant in the middle of it called Ramblers Retreat so you can stop for a bite or just and icecream.

We went for a family walk along Dimmings Dale after a great day at Alton Towers Splashlandings. Plenty of parking in a choice of two gravel car parks. The scenery is beautiful, we passed lakes, beautiful trees and rock faces along our walk. We noticed that there has been a bit of tree chopping since our last visit some years ago as some of the woods were cleared. Our primary reason for the visit was to show our little girl the notorious Chained Oak tree. About a 1 mile walk in, you will get to a bridge, climb up onto the bridge and turn left, keep walking for half a mile and you will find it: a huge old oak tree covered in large extremely heavy cast iron chains with stone steps leading up to the tree. The legend of this tree dates back to 1840. A fascinating bit of history, whether you believe the legend or not. It is interesting to see that the tree has outgrown the chains over the years and is fantastic to wonder what exactly happened all those years ago. The Hex is a ride at Alton Towers based loosely on this tree. A lovely place of calm and serenity on a sunny day. Would recommend.
