Never having eaten in a Portuguese restaurant (or been to Portugal) I had no idea what to expect. It was a cold evening and this is quite possibly why the restaurant was empty when I arrived, and only two other people came in a little later. Lucky me! I was able to have the full attention of Kevin, the owner's son, who went out of his way to explain a little about the food, and was so different from what French waiters used to be like (I find that the old-style arrogance has been replaced in much of Paris by personable, open, smiling young people. Kevin was so absolutely unaffected and friendly that it was one of the reasons I enjoyed my visit to Chez Rita.)
The other is the food! A lot of the menu seemed to be all about fish, but as I'm not really a fish person much, I decided to have a pork dish with vegetables (I don't remember the correct name). Surprise! A huge plate of food arrived, seemingly bigger than it really is because it was full of small shellfish as well - which gave even more volume to the dish in front of me. A feast for the eyes and for the stomach, but before this I chose a home-made chicken soup with round pasta to try and warm me up! Also delicious, and brought to my table by Rita herself. For dessert, what could I possibly have other than the world-famous Portuguese custard tarts (Pastéis de Nata), slightly warm and topped with cinnamon! The entire à la carte meal came to a reasonable 31 Euros.
