I happened to be wandering around the town and spotted the spire of this church so I investigated it. It was worth seeing, the indoors is very pretty. The stars on the ceiling are simply magical.
Located inside the fortified town, this is a lovely old church. Pretty outside, but the interior is a total delight with an amazing ceiling which has over a 1000 hand painted gold stars.
Went into this church as part of our walking tour. Immaculately kept, on entry to the right, is a very detailed history of the church and surrounding area, which is also in English. Beautiful woodwork everywhere. Whilst there, a pianist and 2 singers were rehearsing, didnt sound like 'church' music so it must be used as a venue for recitals etc.
This day probably all churches are full of people who want to celebrate the start of christmas. Its a nice and somewhat special church.Unfortunately its semis that some redecorating is required,as paint is falling of some parts of the walls.Anyhow,if you visit the old town of Fredrikstad its worthwhile to have a look.
This old church has the most fantastic cealing with between 1125 and 1150 golden stars on a blue backdrop. You can sit down and enjoy some quiet time. Not open every day, tourist office knows when.
When we were visiting a wedding was being held at this beautiful setting. The church had a pretty black glazed tile roof with a distinctive steeple.
